I am in immediated need of a checkup and probably service on my '97 GS500. I live in brooklyn, work in manhatten. does anyone know/recommend a shop that is honest, does good work.

Best I've heard of is Power Cycles, a small shop on E. 95th St between 1st and 2nd. I've used them a little bit, for oil changes before I started doing it myself, and carb cleaning. Like any shop around the city they're extremely expensive, but they seem more honest than the bigger places like Camrod and Cycle Therapy.

There's a place in Brooklyn I've been meaning to check out, Precision Motorcycle at 9302 Ditmas Ave. But I never got around to going there so can't speak to their quality/honesty/prices.

Triborough Motorcycles on McGuinness Blvd in Greenpoint.  The guy that runs the place, Mark, is a bit abrupt, but does good work and is honest and reasonably priced.  (718) 349-2190.
