smoothing out the "4-wheeler" exhaust tone

I have been the proud owner of a 2004 Gs500F for a couple months now. I love my bike to death, but have only one complaint-everyone tells me that it sounds more like a Yamaha raptor or some other kind of 4 wheeler than a sportbike. I am happy with the stock performance specs, but I want to know what to do so the exhaust note is smoother and doesn't have that BBBRRAPPP! pulse characteristic when accelerating or cruising. Can anything be done?

Strap on a Wileyco slip-on, or splurge for a full system!

it's a twin, not a inline 4. if you want it to sound like a I4 then buy a I4. no mater what you do it will always sound like a twin.

Yup.  Even with the Wileyco it sounds like a pissed off ATV. :thumb:

Actually, i've gotten a few comments about the nice sound comin off my gs (it has a wileyco on it... not sure if its just a slip on or a system... maybe srinath or cheesy can enlighten)... and it was from a guy with a V4 (VFR) and an I4 (FZR).

Go figure?

I also have the Wileyco, and have owned and ridden many ATV's.  I can't help, too me it sounds like a Raptor or Predator with an aftermarket exhaust.  I like it though. :thumb:

Wind it up more.  Then it sounds more like a race bike.  You might lose some gas mileage though...  ;)

I always liked the way my old bike sounded with the full Yosh. But then it was overbored and cammed. Nice idle lope too! I guess the one I am building now will sound about the same.
Common sense in not very common.

scratch

Valve adjustment, carb synch and oil change will help that.

That was the first flange I made and one of the first wileyco's to ever grace a GS ... its slip on ... and ATV ... yea be happy it sounds like ATV ... instead of a sewing machine ...
Cool.

The best way to solve that problem...

No such thing as a Honda EX500; are you referring to the Kawasaki EX500, or maybe the Honda VF500F (AKA the 500 Interceptor)?

Not that it matters, but the K-bike engine is a vertical twin (like the GS), and the Honda engine is a V-4; two entirely different animals.
