wassup.  been riding (racing) for a few yrs but will be my first street bike in a while.

possibly picking up a 92 GS beater tomorrow for commuting and occasional twisty carver.  thought i'd ask now before looking @ the bike.

1. known problems w/ engine/electricals?  was told 15-16k mi. so i assume time for at least a valve check/adjust + new plugs.

2. what OEM rear shock will swap in and add some ride height?  ex. for 1st gen SV's the SRAD or 636 shock will bolt in w/ slight modification and add ride height and damping.  i assume stock shock is an emulsion shock?

3. what about the front end?  anything that'll bolt right on or internals that will swap in directly?  i assume they're damper rod forks not cartridge?

4. brakes?  does vesrah make a RJL pad set that will fit the GS front caliper(s)?

5. other suzuki and/or other mfr. parts that will direct bolt on?

6. is there scan of the OEM service manual online somewhere i can take a gander at?  more for specs/clearances than anything else.

7. cheap go-fast mods?

thanks

Welcome, Stingray! (And a big BARF welcome, too :nana: )

So you're going to pick-up the '92, eh?

1. Electrical probs - none inherently, just the average stuff that all bikes go through. Valve adjustment, oil change, carb synch, clean airfilter every multiple of 4000 miles.

2. I'd have to do a search on that, but certain year GSXR and Katana shocks will bolt on directly or with a little grinding.

3. Yep, damper rod, not much mods, best suggestion is the Progressive springs, but since your a racer you'll probably prefer the straight-rate springs from RaceTech. And, of course, you know Linderman and the new Evoultion Suspension.

4. I don't know.

5. Other than mirrors...I think everything needs a little grinding to make is fit?

6. Search. I don't have a quick link for ya, yet.

7. Cut off the rear fender?

btw, why would a katana emulsion shock be an "upgrade?"  :dunno: i assume it's longer otherwise i don't see the point.

Bummer.

I believe the Katana shock is an upgrade because it's adjustable for preload as well as dampening (can't remember if it was compression or rebound).
