With Winter rolling in fast, I decided to pick up an "Aero Skirt" for my EXO-400...  The idea is that is deflects the wind that curls up through the bottom of your helmet.  Some helmets come stock with them.

My impressions after riding home last night and to work this morning:

- Well, for one it's cheap.  $8.00 isn't bad.
- It installs really easily and quickly.  Took about 45 seconds to install.
- It makes the opening to the helmet a little smaller, so putting the helmet on was a little less comfortable since my (big) nose rubs the edge of the skirt on the way in.
- The helmet is a

little quieter and there is less wind coming in.
- My chin is a little warmer with it in, but for some reason my neck seems colder...  Maybe it's just the temp difference between the two. :dunno:
- Somehow a bug still managed to find a way into my helmet...  So, it's not the greatest seal.
- The faster you go, the better it seems to work.  At 70 I really appreciated the lack of cold-ass wind in my face.  BUT!  It vibrates at high speed...
- There is WAY more potential for fogged visors (or sunglasses), since your breath can't escape through the bottom of the helmet...  If you don't have a visor with the kick-ass anti-fog, I wouldn't use this thing.[/list:u]

Anyone else have one?  What did you think of it?

My Shoei's came with them but I only used them in cooler weather. I want as much airflow as possible in the heat.

I made my own out of a square of fabric stapled to a piece of cardboard.  The cardboard slips in the front between the cheek pads, and the fabric hangs down about 5 inches, and gets tucked into the chinstrap when I put it on.

And aside from the $8 part, I agree with all your other comments.

Yeah, Shoei's come with them stock, and they seem of nicer quality (stretchy soft mesh is the main material, clipped on to the helmet with rubber tabs). They are VERY nice in cold weather, though, especially if your EXO comes with a visor vent setting. By that I mean a visor opening that is very small, but still allows enough air to enter to prevent shield fogging. Some do, some don't.

I just use a cotton bandanna, like the old school western train robbers.  And I look like an old school western train robber. No fogging or anything.  Although it doesn't get very cold here in GA, so I don't do it often.

I can't picture you in a skirt.

Is it just me or does that StopWind thingy look like a bedpan!!  :lol:

BTW my Icon mainframe halo came with an air/bug deflector - a stretchy soft fabric under the chin that is attached to the jaw part of the helmet by a mesh. Its a permanent feature and works nicely. Lets in enough air to keep the fogging to a minimum (fogs a little on pretty cold days when stopped) and I have never had a bug in my helmet (15,000km and counting)  **knock wood too*

I've had so many damn bugs in my helmet. :x

I guess that's what I get for going on "bug-hunt" rides. :dunno:  Country roads at sunset and night...  Sometimes I have to stop to clear my visor.

Perhaps it does remind you of a bedpan, but being of salacious mind (nothing to do with lettuce) it's rather more like the Y front of panty hose when you get a scagged fingernail caught on 'em. Or when you're impatient.

actually....I saw it on ebay a few years back.....I've been kinda obsessed with it ever since....I haven't bought one yet, but I like to keep an eye out and know where to get one should I desire it (actually, I might get one soon enough....I lost the stock chin thingy from my Arai helmet on the road somewhere, now it gets a little bit drafty in there)....

The skirt is annoying in warm weather...  Luckily it uninstalls in about 1 second.
