I have a blue 97 gs500e and was thinking of getting the wheels powder-coated orange next time the tires wear out (accually I still on the stock tires). I just wanted to see what everyone else thought of this idea. I know I saw a cool looking Buell with this set-up.

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!
:woohoo:

davipu

dude, don't ride the bike.  those tires are 8 years old.   bike tires are designed to last one year max.  get some avons on there (under 150 installed)

sidenote: a blue and orange theme whould look pretty cool.

There is only about 2800 miles on the bike. How many miles should I wait before I change them

0. as tires age they dry and crack getting harder all the time. put a few heat cycles into tires that old and if you are lucky the rear one will blow first giving you a semi controlled decent.

Davipu is saying the regardless of the number of miles on the tires, they are too old.  The rubber, it gets hard, cracks, gets slick, and wants to hurt you.
But I too love the orange wheels idea.  If you did a search, you'd see that I have an extra set of wheels I intend to powder coat orange (my bike is black).  I just haven't gotten around to it.

Sounds like a great winter project to me!

Edit: Doh!!!

Do you want to go another 8000 miles on those? Because, you could if you want to.

Orange rims with the blue would look cool. Go Denver Broncos!

Resale on a bike with orange wheels would really suck.
Common sense in not very common.

Not to a guy in Colorado if the Broncos win the Superbowl, and he doesn't like white rims.

photo shop it before you shell out the money to have them powder coated and if you ended up not liking the color. i saw red wheels on an all black gs on here somewhere and i thought it looked pretty sweet. beauty is definetly in the eye of the beholder when it comes to vehicles. you may love the look and every one else hate it and bash you for it. i say do what you think looks good, it's your bike. i drive a all black subaru forester with gold wheels and i think it looks quite nice regardless of what others may think or say.

Alphamazing

*drool* @ red wheels

Like the Ducati Senna models... gun metal gray with solid red wheels... THAT is hotness right there.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Consider rattlecan before you powdercoat.  Cheaper, and easier to take off if you don't like it.  If you have it rattlecan for a year and like it, go ahead and powdercoat.

So everyone in Colorado likes football and is a Broncos fan?

There are other color options available.
