Just got a 2005 GS500F... theres about 350 miles on it, and the breaks are squeaking a bit.  Anyone know if this is typical and if sanding the pads is the only solution?

Rear brake squeak usually means you're using too much rear and not enough front.

You can apply a little anti-squeal to the back of the pads.  But ja, I take rear brake squeal on a GS as a "back off on the rear" warning.

It happens when i use both breaks, its def the rear wheel squeaking tho.  But the noise only happens with a light press of the rear break, regardless if im on both breaks or not.  Does anyone know what type of stock pads are in the new '05, or maybe its just the humid williamsport air doing it to my rotor.

Yes I have it too on my 05 and had it since I got the bike. It seems to happen all the time now. I have 1800 miles on mine. I don't even put that much pressure on the back and it still squeaks. I haven't messed with anything yet, in terms of trying to fix it. Maybe I am just hoping it will go away.

It might go away...  It might not.  Sometimes the bad will "wear-in" to the caliper.

Most of time when you have a squeak (GS or otherwise), it's the back of the pad vibrating on the caliper:

This beloved "anti-squeal" that you speak of.....can it be found at any auto parts store??
I am cautious to spray anything on the brakes that would affect my breaking.

mine has the same rear brake squeal, same problem as above, only when lightly applying the rear brake. very annoying when you pull up to a stop light and people in their cars are like  :?

Yes...  Auto-parts...

It goes on the other side of the pad...

Rotor | Pad | Goo | Caliper.

Maybe skip me and head straight to the source:

Well at least i know im not the only one with the prob.. maybe ill try the anti-squeak goo... seems to me like its the humidity oxidizing the rotor and causing a squeak, cause after the rotors are all warmed up it goes away.

jeast

i used synthetic brake grease on the back of the pads and on the two bars the pads slide on.
