OK auxillary ground ... yea getting spark ... but somehow its not good ... the negative battery has a extra thin wire to the wiring harness ... that maybe bad ...
Cool.

Quote from: jpcraig1aDo you mean I should check the auxiliary ground? Is that the thin wire on the negative pole of the battery?

This may help to understand the return path (ground) wiring and its relationship to the ignition ckt.

According to the wiring diagram:

The spark plugs, starter motor, oil pressure switch and neutral switch all share the frame and the large black wire on the neg (-) battery terminal for their return path to the battery.

The return path for all other 12V electrical components is by way of small black/white wires that snake through the wiring harness and emerge as two small black/white wires behind the battery.  One of those is dedicated to the rectifier/regulator and the other is for everything else (including the ignition control unit).  At a connecter there, the two wires merge into one small black/white wire which terminates at the neg (-) battery terminal.

As far as spark is concerned, both the large black wire and the small black/white wire are involved.  Just check these connections and make sure they are clean and tight.

just lean to the side that is warm, cause it is making more power and it will run better that way.

But I'm still going to check the coil resistance this weekend.

Thanks for the tip, TB! You wouldn't happen to be my former mechanic's riding buddy, would you? JP
