Man steals vehicle, wrecks it, flees, then dies

By GLENN E. RICE

The Kansas City Star

Kansas City, Kan., police are investigating the death of a man which apparently occurred while he fled after crashing a stolen vehicle into a downtown building.
The incident was reported shortly after 2:30 a.m. near Seventh Street and Central Avenue. A man told officers he arrived home and saw someone drive off in his 1985 Oldsmobile that was parked nearby, said Officer Ryan Fincher, police spokesman.
The man followed his stolen car as it traveled eastbound two blocks from Ninth to Seventh streets along Central Avenue. At that point, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the U.S. Bank building.
The owner of the stolen vehicle said he saw the driver get out of the vehicle and run to the corner of Seventh Street and Central Avenue, where he died, Fincher said.
The victim's name, age and cause of death have not been determined or released, he said.
