well the clean up on my 89 is finally done, and i couldn't be happier.  i started the project back in july in hopes to have it done by the time the fall semester started...  didn't happen.  so from there my time was budgeted between my school work, work, and tinkering time... oh yeah, and sleep.  after reassembly, a carb cleaning and sync, it's running better than ever.  the bike being in pieces afforded me the chance to throw in a laundry list of mods that i'd been looking into.  well anyway here are some pics...

No direct linky from Webshots.  Gotta copy and paste the URL.

That's a mighty purty paint job.  I can see that you did a nice job cleaning up the fasteners and other little rusted bits here and there, too.

John Bates

Very nice.

I especially like the wheels.

Very nice indeed. Good show there chap. The grey/silver looks astounding on that bike. Can you tell me what paint that is so I may find a can?

On a side note... I noticed that you filled in the holes where the turn indicators were. What will you be doing for indicators? Did you integrate them into the tail light in the rear? What about the front? I see no stalks.

Alphamazing

Ah man, I really like the color of that, and +2 on the wheels, that's awesome! What ype of footpegs are you using? And the brake and clutch lever?

since the lips of the wheels were pretty much flawless, all i had to do was strip the paint off them.  i used a chemical spray stripper, aircraft aluminum stripper i believe... found it at my local auto parts store in the paint section.  the stuff starts to work right before your eyes, pretty amazing, but make sure to wear a resperator, esp. you folks in cali... as the warning label reads. :P   and the spokes are just flat black.

LED stalks in the front, small but very bright, and clear alternatives integrated LEDs in the rear.

the paint is dupli color gunmetal, not sure on the code, but it's just a color off the shelf.  had plans to do it in the M3/M5 steel grey metallic, always have been in love with that color... but couldn't find someone to shoot the paint in my budget.   spraying out of a can was no problem... just making sure all the surfaces were super smooth, lots of 2000 wet sanding.

the pegs are from a '05 gxsr 600, and the levers are original, just polished, along with the gauge rings, and grab bar.

What did you do with the tail light....you really cleaned that section up (well, you cleaned the whole bike)

Very nice job. Well done. I like the color.

lol whoops. I meant what are you using for the rear brake and shifter? Are those stock? And are the front and rear pegs both off the '05 Gixxer6? How hard were they to fit?

the rearsets are stock.  i had them, along with the frame and swingarm, powdercoated, the pegs themselves are billet aluminum, bought them off ebay.
just the passenger pegs are off the gsxr.  mounting them wasn't difficult.  before the powdercoating of the frame, i had two pieces of angle steel welded to the bottom of the old peg hangers, making sure to keep the existing mount for the side plastics.  then simply eyeballed them where i wanted them, cut 1 1/4" spacers of steel tubing, stainless hardware and lock nuts from home depot.  the angle of the peg requires you to mount them further into the frame so that the person on back isn't doing a split to rest their feet.  once i tightened everything down i had to jump on them one at a time to get the angle just right, then re-tightened.

yep, cases repainted, and all the fins filed down, then sanded.... polished no, but still very shiny

I was going to say "gunmetal".. I was looking at that same color myself, that is why I asked. The pictures are not as close to the color though. In person.. that color must look BAD ASS then.
