Hello everybody,

i've read gstwins forums occasionaly for some time now, but only now i have a gs500. I live in Lithuania (Europe), so a lot of things are not available here that you are talking about. For example MSF course :)

I have question about the bike. I bought it used with a perf. exaust and a K&N air filter in a stock box, how can i know if the bike has been rejetted without opening the carbs :)? I dont experience any backfiring, just the plugs are a bit white.

Also i saw that air filter has some kind of restriction ring inserted that narrows air intake hole. What is that for?

Thx for any ideas!

Here is the photo of the bike. It is a 2002 w 10000km (6000 miles) on the clock.

Hi, new rider!  That's a purty bike.  And a dang nice-looking exhaust.

Hunt down the previous owner and beat him or her about the head until they tell you.

But with those two mods, it would probably be running way lean without rejetting.  If it's running fine with no dead spots, I'd just be happy with it.

Do white sparkplug ends means that fuel mixture is too lean?

How do those dead spots look like? Is the bike losing power randomly? What are other abnormalies one would experience with non-rejeted bike?

Initialy i thought about replacing spark plugs with colder ones, but if the fuel mixture is too lean it wouldnt help i guess...

Mildly scary.  The bike is going, and all of a sudden, it just won't go anymore.  It's much more abrupt than topping out.

But you only get that at the extreme of lean.

Hi, very nice bike you have there. Yellow is the best!

Hmmm....I seem to have a "dead spot" at 6K RPMs 99% when decelerating. When he gets down to 6K, power is lost abruptly...I can increase throttle, but I get nothing but rev....no acceleration....he "kicks back in" when he reaches 5800K RPM. This doesn't happen if I'm decelerating by engine braking.... This has become a pretty consistant thing... I know that one side is running hot and the other is running lean (one plug is black within one ride, and the other is white)... does this sound like a true dead spot?  :dunno:
