Is my bike too lean?

First of all.....I've SEARCHED...so don't flame :nono:

here's the problem...

I have wileyco, K&N pod filter, rejet (see sig)...the bike runs PERFECTLY...but it just won't seem to idle...

The bike will idle fine at ~1300rpm but as soon as I give throttle above ~2500rpm...the idle will shoot up to 3000rpm and hang there forever...

I've read that this is due to a lean jetting in the pilots...is this true?

oh...i've tested out the carb boots and air intake...no leaks...cleaned carbs as well...

i know that a lot of people have the same problem...but the posts never continued to say if the lean condition was actually the problem...so i just wanna confirm before i buy a bigger pilot jet...

Thanks

I have the same Wileyco, K&N Pod and the same jets as you on an 05.  I set the mixture screw to 3 turns and have had no problems.  Maybe mess with your mixture screw? :dunno:
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

how's your mid-top end though?...i forgot what I've turned the mixture screw to...but it's where I want it...maybe I'll try 3 turns out...

but is this an indication of a lean condition?

Air screw is adjust to taste ... you have a dragging throttle cable ?? if not try opening up the air screw 1/4 ...
Cool.

At 3 1/2 turns out it was running real rich.  At 3 turns out I have not has any problems in Low Mid or right RPM's.  I think it's still a little rich definatly not lean.

opening (turing it out) the air mixture screw is to lean it out right?

opening meaning more air in?

can anyone tell me what the tiny O-rings at the top of the carbs are for?
the ones that everyone is telling people not to lose...

If your bikes running lean it will also run HOT!
Is this the case?

Best thing is to chop the plugs, Bit time consuming but will tell you exactly whats going on :)

if it's too lean then you need to add calories to her diet so she'll fatten up for the winter.

Best way to check if your engine is running lean is to pull your spark plugs.
white= motor is lean
Black = motor rich
brown = just right

If your bike is 6% body fat or less, it's too lean.

After a 1000 mile round trip, I noticed the inside of my exhaust tip was brownish.

Its a stock 2005 GS. So I guess they really do run lean from the factory.

the O-rings keep gas from leaking out of the carbs. Basically, they seal the connection point when you put the carbs back together, which is why you have to make sure they stay in the little grooves when you screw everything tight. The oil filter has an O-ring around it as well. It functions in the same way; keeping the liquid from leaking out at the connection point.

Happens to me all the time.  just take your kickstand out of the soft ground and move it to the pavement.  :)
