Wow! That was so fun. I took it thursday night and all day saturday, and sunday. I got to ride a small 200cc Dual sport. I chose that because I figured it would be closer to a sport then the many 125 cruzers they had; from a handing standpoint. It had a big fatty rear tire, and was reallly jumpy with the throttle. Even with that, I owned up the U-turn in a box (20' wide) during the test. OWNED IT! HA! stupid box! Over half the class failed that part. Only part I didn't get perfect was the stopping test, because (being first) I wasn't going to be like the guy in the story told right before about the hot shot who locked his front brake trying to show off and flew into failure; and the cement.

We had 12 people in the class. I was one of 4 or 5 that passed (yes!). There were a bunch of old people though (like 50+). I thought it would all be young people.

If you haven't taken the class, you might think of doing so. Even if you have been riding for many years. There was one guy (who passed) that had ridden since 1986. He said he learned a alot more then he thought he would, but even more that he should never have been doing. Like bad habits and stuff.

Now I'm stoked to ride my gs. I'm heading out to find a helmet right now. I tried yesterday, but everyone and their mother were closed.

Does anyone know of a helmet that comes in solid yellow, doesn't leak water and is snell 2005 certified? I found the snell 2005 list, but it's impossible to figure out easily what colors they are, and if they leak. I guess if I bought it from a store, I could take it back. Or atleast ask about that.

Now all I will need are some boots, and a jacket/pants. Ha, I took the BRC in my snowboarding clothing. (decided there was no way i was going to alow falling. that way i woudnt tear a huge ass hole in them  :) )

wow, only 4 or 5 passed? hell, we had 12 people in my class, and ALL of em passed! Including myself!!!  :?  :?   as far as helmets go... i'm veeery partial to my scorpion exo-400, but they don't come in solid yellow =( they do have yellow on their design helmets tho. And the exo-400s don't come in solid white either?!  :? go figure  :dunno: but anyway, congrats, and have fun!  :thumb:

Congradulations!

The Shoei RF-1000 definitely comes in yellow, I think the Shoei TZ-1 comes in yellow. If you get the TZ-1, get a FogCity anti-fog ProShield (like an extra $15-20, but well worth it. You might be able to get away with just a breathguard on the RF-1000 ($14-18.)).

Go to the nearest motorcycle store, and put on all the yellow ones.  OR ask which ones come in yello,w and put all of those on.

And congratulations on the BRC.  It's surprising that there was such a low pass rate.  Bad instructor?

Same for me

I was first for all the tests... Ruled the box.  F'ed up the swerve by going too fast and slowing down to the right speed, but it didn't count against me and I got a rerun...  Then the quick stop...  Locked the rear right away and didn't use enough front.

As for the yellow helmet...  (YELLOW RULES! :thumb: )

Shoooooeeeeee has the X-Eleven, Z-II, and RF-1000 in "Axis Yellow."
HJC has the AC-11 in "Dark Yellow."
Icon has the Halo in nearly all yellow (Black flames around visor).
KBC Racer-1, Vision, TK-9, and TK8 in "Solar Yellow."

THEN!!!  Lots of helmet with graphics that have lots of yellow...  I like my Scorpion...  The Geronimo is yellow, white, and black.  It seems like it has more yellow than my Warhawk...

BUT!!!  Don't choose a helmet based on looks...  Pick a helmet based on fit!  Don't shy away from Special Ordering a helmet either...  You want one that FITS and it's always nice to have the color you want, even if it's not in stock.

Congrats on passing!!!!!  :thumb:    :)

I just got an EXO-400, and I can't wait to wear it out tomorrow!!!

Wow. You must be damn bored to go and do that research (what little it was). You should definitely go and try on helmets before buying one.

Yeah, I went and tried on all the yellow-possible ones. I decided on a RF-1000. It had a very nice fit, and didn't bunch up my ears. Now I just need to figure out if it's worth buying online. The store has a price of $360. Its almost online prices. Although, they say you can't return helmets at all.

edit: also.. It seemed that most of the helmets over $300 fit well. The girl was like, "does it fit better or worse?".. like hell if i can tell.. i would think. They are all to close to call. So, how can you tell in a minuet if a helmet is better then the next one on the shelf?

As for the class; I think it was just a bunch of people that had high hopes but low self drive; and low fine detail self control. I think the instructors could have pushed harder, but it's really up to the student to do the work. The instructors give you things to do, so.. you should actually do them. Like the box/U-turn, almost noone moved their ass over and counter weighted; or even looked where to go. (including me some of the time) I thought the instructors were very good. It just happened that about 3-4 of the students can't listen worth crap, and were always screwing up simple things; like going to the right cones and right/lefts when they were told and then shown by example how to ride the couse. I know that isn't the direct reason they sucked, but it is a big spotlight on them.

You should have seem my DMV lisence test. 40 or so people, only 8 or so passed. That's being generous.

Check eBay for Shoeis. I got my RF-1000 for $262 shipped, and it's a fancy graphics model.

Quote from: NightRyderSo, how can you tell in a minuet if a helmet is better then the next one on the shelf?
You can't.  Not in a minute, not even if you're listening to a minuet.  Read through some of the previous posts here and you'll see that the recommendation is to find what you think is the "best" fit and wear it around the store for at least 15 minutes or so.  Try on jackets, discuss politics, whatever...but see if it is still comfortable after a while.  I tried on every helmet (twice) than wore one around while I tried on every jacket in the store (twice).  You want to avoid finding out that it's uncomfortable by getting a raging headache after an hour of riding.  Also remember that the padding will compress a bit as you wear it, so a tight (but not uncomfortable) fit is important...you may also want to find out what options there are for replacing the inside padding, so if it turns out a bit loose/tight you can swap out padding to get a different fit, rather than needing to get a new lid.

Quote from: NightRyderAlthough, they say you can't return helmets at all.

The place where I bought mine said you could not return a helmet if you wore it on a bike (even sitting on one in the showroom).  However, they said nothing about wearing it as I drove home in my car.  Nice 50 mile/90 minute trip with the helmet on gave me a great indication of how comfortable it was.  And it was funny to see the people sitting in rush hour around me staring at me in my helmet  8)

^^ True.  Though with all the sniper business around these parts awhile back, I was probably a little suspect in a black car with tinted windows and a helmet with a smoked visor hehe.  I may do it again tonight

pandy

HaHa!!! Ya' need to protect yourself! Wouldn't it be hysterical to actually be pulled over (as long as all of your paperwork is in order, of course), and have the cop ask why you're wearing a helmet.

Let's see...you could say that your brain surgeon recommends wearing the helmet at all times to protect the brain....or I suppose you could just tell the officer that you're breaking in a new helmet...but that sounds SO much more boring!

If you can get it on your head without pain, that's your minute test...

But, that IS NOT enough!!

Find the helmet you think fits the best and wear it in the store for at least...  very very least...  10 minutes.  The more time you have to wear it, the better off you'll be.

If you get "hot spots" or take the helmet off and have a red forehead, it probably doesn't fit quite right.

The right helmet takes time...  You'll have it strapped to your dome for a long time, so take the time now and don't regret getting the wrong helmet.

Well...it took me two tries to realize you can't get a full-face on while wearing glasses.  There was a little pain involved, even though the helmet "fit".

I still have a little scar from trying to take mine off while still wearing sunglasses.  That was great fun.

RVertigo

Yeah...  I've tried to get my helmet on and off with sunglasses on...  Always makes me feel smart.
