It was typing I missed.  :nana:

So, Alpha, come back in three months after you've done the track day, and let us know what your final grades are. I expect an A in every class! :P ;)

Engineering: Dude. It's mechanical engineering. It's a sausage party. :(

And for clarification, I'm skipping to go WORK a track day. I might have to skip again to go DO a track day.

My Name Is Dave

I was being facetious; I can assume there are no women in there. My point though remains: Get your ass to the track, because you aren't missing shiat! I missed days to play GTA 3 when it came out and to deal with the reprecussions of being "overserved" the night before; this is a MUCH better reason to not go to class.

Just go for it.

Bah.  You'll never use any of it again anyway.  ;)

We had a widespread outbreak of "Masterchiefitis" when Halo 2 came out.

I skipped an art history lecture this morning knowing I have an exam in there next Tuesday, and I only did it to get an extra 2 hours' sleep.  Getting a free track day is a much better reason.

I used to tell all my professors (undergrad) that in the springtime, I would never be in class if the outside temperature was over 70 degrees.  They made it clear that my 70 Degree policy would ensure me to never get an A in their class.  I made it clear that I was fine with that.

My advice: just go in thier office (bring the one guy a cigar) and staight up tell them "I'm missing class because I am passionate about riding motorcycles, but I will do anything I can to make it up to you."

Edit: Ohh. Ohh.  No.  Tell them that you  are a volunteer EMT and that you have to work the race that day to make sure nobody gets hurt and if you don't work the track day you'll lose your EMT certification and a scholorship that you earned by being a volunteer firefighter in highschool.

That's much better.

Aren't there any other days you can do this to earn a track day? Skipping school sets a bad precedent.  :nono:

Now, having a son of my own, I know you're going to do what you want to do.   :dunno:

So good luck with your decision, and I hope it's an adult one! ;)  :thumb:

Time to be a father that rides a motorcycle...

Dooo the trackdaaayyy!!
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

You gotta weigh your choices...  Missing class can wreck you for the rest of the quarter.

If you have your heart set on working the track day, then you might consider talking to your teachers...  Tell them that you have some VERY important PERSONAL business to take care of and you will most regretably be forced to miss a day of class...  Tell them that you REALLY don't want to screw up your classes and see what material will be covered, etc.

Some profs will be hella cool about it and arrange for you do attend a different class or even have a little personal time...  Some will tell you tough luck...  and some will tell you that missing class is never an option and that they now hate you.

:dunno:

School is good.  You have a lifetime to ride track days...

Wow.. I wana see a teacher that goes, "I hate you."

heh. It seems like you said something or another about not making it before the next track day. So does that mean you could just wait a week, and do it all out of school?

Been there.

I had enrolled in "Computer Graphics".  I assumed it was a computer course; what I failed to notice was that it was an art course.  Draw lines and circles using the "paintbrush" equivalent of the time...then sit back and appreciate your own genius.  Blech.  I wrote a basic ray tracer and submitted source code and a rendered scene (textured spheres on reflective plane).  Mostly becuase I was a bastard.

The professor failed me because he couldn't get my final project to print on the plotter (raster graphics, vector device), couldn't get it to open in his drawing program (wrong image format...remember: bastard), and obviously couldn't make heads or tails of the code.  I got the math department to contest my grade...he lost.  He hated me, and didn't have a problem telling me so.

Good thing I didn't have to take any more art classes.

Really...only YOU can know whether you're in a position to skip school once or twice. If you're a bright student, and you're keeping up with your classes, then there's probably no harm.

BUT, if you're struggling at ALL, listen to the mama here, NOT the daddy!!! :P ;)

I've had a prof say it in not so many words...

He said that missing class showed my disrespect for the class and him as my professor...  Yadda Yadda Yadda...  I'm a bad person... Yadda... Wasting my time and his...  Yadda Yadda...

Moral of the story...  Profs that grade on attendance should teach high school.  (I passed with a B- after acing every test, missing a quarter of the lectures, and turning in my final paper a day late ('cause I didn't bother to write it until the day it was due)).

oh yeah, go to the track Alpha. life's too short to be stuck in a classroom. think about it. in the grand scheme of things, what effect will one class actually have? Will it significantly affect your college 4yr gpa? will it affect your ability to get employment? bleh.
