Okay, so not that I intend to do this, as disabling something that the EPA says is important and legally necessary would be wrong, but-

Theoretically, were you to need to save good american lives by circumventing the california emissions carbon filter setup, where would be the wise point to detach a hose?  Right at the tank, before or after the roll-over valve, or where it enters the canister?

Would you then, in theory, need to block the purge hose that returns to the carbs, or would it be better off if it were able to breathe?

You know, purely hypothetically speaking.

i'll tell you if you can give me a realistic reason why you'd want to. There is a small set of about 5 reasons people usually give, and they are all misinformed.

Remy_Marathe

A suspicion that the can may be clogged and leading to vapor lock.  And saving good american lives, like I said.  Two reasons, maybe misinformed.

After rejetting my '01 I had to remove the canister or the bike would vapor lock every time.  Smelled like a fuel tanker wreck every time I shut the bike off.

You'll feel a need to go out and kill people if you still have it?

Jetted too rich?

Nope, professionally dyno tuned.  The consensus was that the combination of mods, California bike, and high altitude were causing my problems.  Took canister completely out, plugged holes, and voila problem went away.

HAhaha!

After the roll-over valve (so the tank has the roll-over valve, so when the bike rolls over gas wont run out everywhere).

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

what do you expect to get?  more power out of your gs?  I can't think of any good reason to disable a system meant to lessen the noxious odors spewed into the air.  Just get a bigger bike.

You must not live in a big city.   I'll take a picture of the haze over atlanta during the summers for you one day.

Tarzan boy- Read the thread.  I wanted to factor out a possible source of vapor-lock, to see If the bike continues to stutter when ridden hard and fast for a length of time.  I don't expect to get more power out of my bike.  And I commute regularly to L.A., where the smog is very real.  The VAPOR coming out of a gas tank 's breather on a motorcycle is a negligible thing in the air-pollution problem.  I'm not going down when my bike starves out while I'm cornering to prevent an ecological catastrophe that's on par with, I don't know, gassing up a vehicle or opening your tank to look at the level.

rritterson-  Thank you for taking the time to post.  Probably the same amount of time it would've taken you to answer the question and mention the 5 myths you're so concerned I might believe in, thus enriching all who read the thread.  But hey- at least your post makes you look cool.

Scratch-  Thank you sincerely for actually reading the question, and answering it.  You rock.
