I'll try and keep this short and too the point.
Yesterday my roommate had a friend over and we were riding eachothers bikes.  I first rode my roommates secaII and then shot some hoops. I broke a sweat and my roommates friend offered to let me ride his '05 cbr 600rr.  So took it around the neiborhood for about 15 minutes.
On my way back to the house a small white car turned infront of me almost totally cutting me off.  I leaned into a hard right turn and increased my speed a little bit to avoid the car.  And thats when I hit.. the curb.  I was thrown from the bike at 50mph and hit the pavement rolling about six times.  The bike flipped down the street.  I had removed my jacket for basketball and not put it back on, because I was hot... :(
I immediately jumped to my feet and moved the bike off the road to discover that my shoes were 20 yards behind me and that about 15 people were standing around watching me.
As for the bike, the right clipon is broken, the right peg is broken the crankcase cover is cracked, and the plastic is rashed and cracked.

I am so angry at myself right now.  Luckily the guy who owns the bike has full coverage, and will only hafta pay a deductable.  I'm in a hole.  I'm owing for the trip to the hospital, prescriptions, and of course the bike.
I have little skin left on my left arm and leg.  My right hand got a little skin taken, and theres four spots the size of a fist on my back.  I also tore my rotator-cuff in my right shoulder.  My helmet was destroyed.
I'll try and post some pics later today.
Ride safe. Please.

Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

Sorry to hear how hurt you got :( Glad to see you're alive though. Are you going to wear all your gear at all times now?

Ty sez ..."My helmet was destroyed". I take that to mean that you were wearing it, right? Assuming the answer is in the affirmative, we can all be thankful for that protection that it had afforded you. Your tale reveals how what might seem to be a harmless, non-threatening, casual, short ride can quickly put you on your arse.
I'm glad it wasn't worse, heal fast, keep the faith and get back in the saddle quickly.
It's not how fast you go, rather "how" you go fast!

Gisser

Ouch.  :(

But, I noticed you were vague in describing the perp white car which I take to mean that no citation was written up?  And, crashed doing 50mph in a neighborhood street?  Sorta sounds like someone may have gotten carried away riding a CBR600 for the first time and lost control.  Whatever, you may be able to sue the bike owner's insurance for your medical expenses.  Sounds disgusting, I know.  Something to be weighed against the value of your friendship and the fact he was doing you a favor letting you ride.  Like they say, no good deed goes unpunished.

Sorry to hear you were hurt...glad to hear you weren't more seriously hurt.

Tyler:

I'm soooo SOOOO glad you weren't injured more. Thank you for posting your experience; hopefully it will help someone else make a better gear decision (and you, too!). I say this with caring, dear. I'm really glad you're ok.

Let us know when you're healed up enough for a spanking. :P

Very happy to hear you weren't more seriously injured. These are one of those stories that, while could have ended better for you, should be used as a lesson for others. Wanna hug it out? :thumb:

Quote from: 97gs500e... '05 cbr 600rr... around the neiborhood... at 50mph... I had removed my jacket... I'm in a hole... little skin left... helmet destroyed.
well, just like everyone said, you can be happy to be alive.
I think there is a big difference in power between a 97 gs500 and a 05 CBR600rr. maybe you lost control when leaning + increasing speed.
Caturday yet?

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

It sucks, you feel shitty... I'd say something but then again I believe you allready know the price of the mistakes you did. You probably feel em too  .

One lesson everyone should take away from this... dont lend your darn bike! lol

I wont, simply because in the last three years I've had more people I know's bikes get smashed by someone else than I care to count. If you lend your bike, accept the fact that you could be stuck paying anything that the person might do with it.

I'm really curious how health coverage works.. but I'm not about to hi jack this thread.  I'll post a question in the odds and ends section.

bigdaub

glad to hear that you are still alive.  try to get the car to pay for the damages since he/she pulled out in front of you and you have 15 or so witnesses.  if they are at fault, they should be responsible for your damages.

I hope you consider some actual protective riding boots when you get back out of the hole as well as wearing the gear you already own.  They don't tend to come off in a crash, or have laces flapping around to get caught in the sprocket.
Common as foot and leg injuries are on bikes, I notice that's the second piece of gear to go (after proper riding pants) when people get tired of the hassle / decide they don't want to look uncool.
