The highly regarded Corbin seat that fits up to 2000 GS500 is NOT available mail-order for the 2001. I offered to ship them my stock seat.
Here's the reply I received from them.

Thank you very much for your interest in our products, we've been making
seats over 34 years and are the leading motorcycle seat manufacture in the
country.
Sorry, but we do not make a seat for the 01, the seat pan will not help us,
we need the bike itself we do offer a ride in service in our Hollister
facility, we can make you a seat there in about 4 hours we have a
restaurant on site and we'll charge you the same as the closest comperable
seat. The phone # to set an appointment is
1-800-260-7328.

Yeah, it's widely known there is no seat for the '01+ bikes, which we all agree sucks.

Maybe we can have someone make an appointment because I wouldn't mind a nicer seat.

I think they mean that they're only doing customs for the '01+ models.

By who?   :P  :)

(Not a fan of Corbin - you can get your seat custom-fit to your own behind for less.  Corbin's just another mass-produced seat that claims to fit every butt.  No mass-produced seat will fit every butt.)

Yea baby ... fat injection into your bony ass = 1 ass fits all bikes ... wooo hooo ...
Cool.

Yeah, you'd want something custom to fit THAT ass, huh?

I've sat on a Corbin seat for a something-or-other (don't remember right now) as well as a Sargent seat for the same bike. Corbin seat fit me MUCH better. Maybe I'm lucky to have a universal ass.

I have serious doubts that any ol' custom seat can match Corbin's, that have been designed to individual models of bike. They do custom seats and will work with an existing seat to modify it, so calling it "mass-produced" is a bit off the mark. If you take a look at the Corbin site (www.corbin.com), you see four guys basically doing custom work that looks pretty decent.

Here are the two models available for the pre-2001 GS500:

are there any wood seats for the GS? I think that would exercise my butt.
Caturday yet?

What is a "custom" seat if not one that isn't designed to an individual butt on an individual bike?

Go to Rich's, and he'll take your stock seat and either cut the existing foam or build you a new pad on the stock pan with gel and foam, and either put on the stock cover or make a new one for you.  It takes half a day, and you sit on it and give feedback throughout the process, so you know you've got the right fit when all is done.  The price depends on the options you get, but with the stock seat cover, it's under $200.  When I've gone there, I've met people from Canada, from other states, even from the east coast - who have ridden out to get a good fit.
