Well, After finally getting full gear for my dirtbiking expiditions, I really want to investigate a helmet cam. I'd like to share some of my crazy dirtbiking trails with all of you.

Now for some reason at my work we sell these Tony hawk (lol) helmet cams with straps that go on your head, and a little digital camera, but besides shelling out 100 dollars for that fine piece of equipment, and besides duct tape, how would you go about doing this?

You could bike mount it...  I think you'd end up with better video in the end...  (But, no crashing is allowed)

suction cups and superglue.

for bike mounts you need to check out the RAM system  whitehorsepress.com carries it, IMO it is the only accy mountign system to buy.

That's a pretty sweet setup they have. I just need to determine if my camera can handle the punishment.

I looked into this while racing go-karts but never got the dang thing bought. I found that a helmet mounted cam would be better because you body helps to absorb some of the vibrations and jolts. I saw some vids from a helmet mount and some from a kart mount. The helmet mount seemed like a more stable picture.

Just what I have found.

Also, helmet cam would be a lot funnier if you crashed.

Well...  It would be cool to have a "driver's eye view" of riding...  But, it might end up being too much like the sick-cam in Blair Witch.

I think so too.

Just take whaever camera, start filming, and then shake it like a can of spraypaint. Then, watch the video and see if it holds up. I think the head mounted cam would be cooler, you would end up getting a wider view because the camera would pan back and forth with your head.

I would use masking tape, duct tape leaves a residue.

I have used masking tape on the tank before :dunno:

If you want something that is decent you will probably have to part with the $100 or more. here are acouple I found fairly quickly.

I'm thinkin maybe I'll get some of my crazier dirtbiking buddies and we'll split the cost. It seems like a much better idea to get something hardcore, because they'res a couple places with large drops or whoops that will get you some impressive air, I don't want a heavy weight on my head in these situations. Not to mention going over downed logs is a bumpy situation with wheelies and stoppies, can't imagine a real camera liking that experience.
