My question is where can a guy get  a good deal on carb kits for the GS?
Dealer wants 26 dollars each, I am in kinda of a money crunch right now and need to save a bid of cash if possible.

Next question is does anyone now where to get the extra tool needed to synch the carbs on an 82 750 maxim? The dealer told my dad it was not available anymore?

I haven't had much luck with the vaccuum synch tools.  The one that works GREAT (for me) is based on airflow.  Search for it on ebay and you'll find it for about 25 bucks.  It's called a uni-sync.  You place it over the carb horn with the engine at high idle and note how far the little ball rises.  Then place it over the other carb and adjust it until the ball rises the same amount.  Then re-do.  If your carbs are out, you will be AMAZED at the improvement when you get them synch'd right.

Carbs on GS - buy individual jets ... will cost ya under $15 ...
125 or 150 mains X2, 40 X 2, allen head bolts and #4 washers ...
Maxim ... ha ha ... a regular synch tool will not work ... you need to shut that horizontal intake plenum between the 4 intakes, people have made tools out of threaded ro and radiator hose ... however ... I yanked my carbs and eyeball synched them ... whihc BTW you can do to the GS as well when you have it open.

I have trained the local dealer parts desk monkeys to get me the right jets when I call ... that may be an idea, the next option may be cycle gear types if you have that in your vicinity ... BTW what kit and what O ring ??? O rings I buy from an auto parts place ... in the generic O ring bin ...

I have never done this before I just assumed that there were o rings that needed replaced. All I know is that it has carbon fouled the left spark plug and the left carb has fuel dripping from it so I thought I would go ahead and rebuild them.

Maybe ... but dont rebuild the thing entirely ... buying a kit etc ... find out where exactly the leak is ... then replace just that O ring. The carb rebuild kit is really if you need that float bowl O ring ... else its a waste of $$$ ...

I'd say you have a stuck or mucked up float valve on the carb that leaks. The less you mess with the carbs, the better the bike will run.

Try pulling the float bowl from under that carb and remove & clean the float valve first. Look it over good. Don't do anything to change the height of the float level. Just clean the valve, put it back together and see if that worked.

I had leaky float needles.  I left the bike on PRI and got puddles of gas a couple of times (and a lake of gas once).   I got the rebuild kits and replaced the float needles and the float needle seats, and haven't had a problem since.
