Ok, let's see what  fuel I can add to the fire  8)

Firstly...

One word AJ: Ridiculous. R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S. Do I need to start another thread for Ridiculous?? Being a spelling and grammar nazi does not always pay off, especially since no one is perfect, and it will eventually come back to bite you in the hind quarters.

JetSwing - You are arguing with a bunch of females who are homosexual, bisexual, or have been bi-curious. Do you think any of them are going to agree with you? It does not do any good to argue with a woman anyways, since they think they are always right. Especially Roadstergal, she can not be wrong about anything. Have you completely missed her previous 3000 posts?

RVertigo - I agree that a good lay might calm down some people and get their "panties all in a bunch". I get laid enough, honestly, but it is Friday and it's been a long week so I could sure use a drink right about now!
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

Well then in that case, carry on! Haha. I think you better pack a lunch though. She has an excellent command of the written language, rhetoric as sharp as a needle, and several admiring minions.

For something new, you could try rational discussion...   :dunno:

:thumb: Hey, bonus points for the source of that quote.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't bring up my post count whenever disputes arise. It's funny - I don't think post count lends one any credibility at all, but people bring it up as if I had ever pointed to them as a reason for credibility?

I wouldn't miss the post-count meter if it disappeared.

Quote from: JetSwingrg, you're very smart girl...so it's not like you to say something that stupid. just because we have a four limbs doesn't mean it's four legged design. i think that's why our hands and feet look and function differently.

the lower back issue is the gravity  ;)

Look at the skeletons of four-legged creatures.  Note the ribcage.  Note the spine - a very thin link between the ribcage and the pelvis, not designed to hold the weight of the upper body.  Now mentally straighten that four-legged skeleton, and you have the human body - a spine that is not designed to hold the upper body, a pelvis that is no longer ideally positioned for its purposes (childbirth being a big one), and our heels hit the ground - hence, arch problems.

We evolved opposable thumbs while we were still as much on all-fours as not (look at our simian relatives), and neotony made our toes vestigial.  Even in a cat or a shrew, the hind and the forelimbs look and function differently - that's nothing special to us.

I have way, way, way more biology under my belt than you do, m'dear. :)

i just spoke to a friend who is a doctor. (i've decided that i needed a professional assistance 8) ). he's also an experienced surgeon.

here are his responses:

"that's crap"

"the human pelvis is tilted very differently from 4 legged animals"

"also, look at our necks, they're not meant to be tilted up and back like 4 legged animals"

"our necks are meant to be resting vertically, not horizontally"

"The majority of spinal abnormalities and back pain occur from poor posture or poor body mechanics.  Take for example the bones of the cervical spine.  Unless the head is held in an upright position, there is excessive strain on the muscles of the neck.  Also, in 4 legged animals, you tend to see more similarity between the lengths of the 4 extremities.  In typical human beings, the upper limbs are shorter than the lower limbs.  Even in non-human primates, the upper limbs are longer to allow for easier 4 limb ambulation.  The only time we should be on all 4's is if we're getting banged doggy style."

"Another distinguishing characteristic is the opposable thumb which even primates do not have.  Stop comparing humans to other animals.  Listen lady, you may look like a dog, but you're not.  Stop trying to make up excuses for the similarity."

"The other thing to look at is movement.  In human beings, the normal gait is pendular.  This is an efficient method of movement.  This would not be occuring were humans to get down on all fours and crawl around."

"Listen up beeatch...if you think we should be on all fours, get down and crawl around. I'll continue to walk upright like a human."

ok...i made up the last one   :P

ps. anus = exit

So THAT must be why "Crab Soccer" is so much harder to play than regular soccer??

Humans evolved from 4-legged animals.  We've adapted to uprightness some, as I mentioned and as he implies, but that's how we started.

oh goody! evolution vs creation! let's do it!

wait...maybe not  :nono:

ps. my friend, dr ruth doesn't believe in evolution.

Although the syntax isn't clear, you're saying your ranting friend is a creationist?    It certainly makes more sense of the ranting.

BTW, since the point is being lost in minutae, I'll re-state it - you were talking about 'unnatural' things.  I made the point that a lot of very good things can be considered 'unnatural.'  E.g., we evolved from four-footed animals (OK, except for your friend; if he insists, we'll say he devolved from them); our move from four legs to two can be considered as unnatural as anything conservatives rant about as being 'unnatural.'  We're the only mammals that made that move, after all.

point? i didn't think there were points in any of our arguments. if there were, they got lost when the "submit" button was pressed.

besides, winning debate = lost victory
