I'm looking to find a screw that will hold the little L-shaped wire guide on the speedo cable in place on the front forks.  The screw is missing and that little wire guide thingie is just dangling at the bottom of my speedo cable. :?

The guide is part #25 on this schematic:
ron ayres microfiche gs500f. Is the screw maybe #26?  I tried a few random screws I found in my garage, but nothing fit. :dunno:

If someone can tell you the size/length you can go to a specialty screw place (Tacoma Screw around these parts), but it might just be easier to order one on-line or from the stealer.   :dunno:

I've had a lot of bad luck finding metric screws and bolts at "normal" hardware places...  They always seem to have something close, but never something that will actually work.  The stealer tends to stock all the stock screws...  Since they fall out and get stripped pretty often.

(Your other option is to jam something in there.    :dunno:  )

Oh man, there are so many jokes just waiting....

I have no problem ordering an OEM screw.  Just can't figure out *what* to order.  Stoopid metric screws.

If you have a stealer near by, you might just want to run down there and get a shop guy to figure it out...  I'd bet they'd take all the time it needed to find the right one and give it to you for free...

Just go down there and ask to order the replacement screw...  Then unzip the leather to show a little cleavage.

jen_,

just checked at my '98 GS and figured it is an M6 (metric 6,0 mm dia) thread, 12 mm long, hexagonal head with washer-like extended bottom.

I found one of those in my garage, just about 4 mm longer - should that be a prob, you'd need to cut it using a metal saw. If that helps you, pm or mail me your address, I'd simply drop it in the mail to you... or maybe you gimme your fax#, I also could fax it if need be _quick_
