Ten-past-six this morning. I go outside of my house to find both my bikes have been attacked / vandalised. I have a gently sloped forecourt, concrete, in front of my place where I leave the bikes. They stand with the side stand on the "low" side for stability. My GS is chained to a ground anchor and the XS to a metal ring on a low wall.

Someone had pushed the GS onto its right hand side against the slope and it had almost fallen into the five foot drop "area" to give my basement light. The bars and yoke jammed on the head of an ornamental stone lion on a wall and the engine bars took most of the impact and prevented a big problem. The XS simply had the side stand kicked away and fell with the slope smashing on of the turn signals I had recently fitted, luckily I have another authentic  80's Yamaha one recently aquired as scrap.

I am really pi**ed-off about it and just had to tell somebody, all was well when I got home from a friend's about 2300 last night and judging by the small amount of fluid lost i don't think it happened much earlier than I discovered it. I havn't had any problems with neighbors etc,.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

what a bunch of scums! i'm really sorry hear that. i'm fuming just hearing about it.  :x

do you have any idea who might have done it? or do you think it's just a ramdom act?
My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

There's a special kind of karma for animals that do this sort of thing.  :x

I just dont get why people have to do stuff like that.  I had my car repainted two days later I went to Sears to buy an impact set.  When I got out to my car someone had keyed my car all the way around deep enough to get to the metal I was so pissed words cannot describe how mad I was  :x .  I'm glad the damage was not that bad and hope nothing like that happens again.  Maybe get a Mastiff and chaim him / her close to your bikes.

I believe the next worst thing to theft is vandalism. We were kicking around a discussion of security on this section with Soaring, who lives in LA or there abouts. I think you experienced the snatch-and-grab type of punk that resorts to vandalism when they can't win.

Sounds like it is time for a video camera that does infra red. It will be a hassle to record, but may be what the officials need to arrest such idiots.

Another idea is to wire the items to a "mild" electric deterent. After all, they did trespass... :guns:

Perhaps a proximity light with a fake camera?

Just wondering how could you run a current through the body of your bike?  Run a pos lead from the battery to the frame and not gound it?

OMFG.  I don't know what kind of messed-up twats do stuff like that.

Ja, one of my ex-BFs had a black Z3 - not even an expensive car, but just a nice one that he really liked (and his only transportation) - it was keyed three times in the time I knew him.  Some people just have Issues.

It would require one of those "joke" devices that shock the victim when they touch it. The voltage is high, but the current is low and unlike a carpet shock, it just keeps coming until someone gives up or the battery dies.

On the other hand, one could use the mains/light bulb method that knocks the $hit out of the victim, but doesn't kill them unless they are really grounded. I don't recommend this because I have seen animals killed this way. I believe there was one store owner that was prosecuted after a thief was dispatched in a similar fashion.

Best/safest method would be electric fence technology. I think that is what one inventive person used to deter male dogs from hosing down a particular spot on their property.  :o   Now THAT would get my attention!

I thought of Claymore mines but my local HomeBase does not stock them, shame. :x
I am hoping this was simply a mindless act of random stupidity. What worries me is that it could be something personal although I am on good terms with just about all the people in the 'hood. There is a nutter in the area who was constantly having silly problems centred around parking disputes with my next door neighbor. No one can prove it but several people think he has "keyed" cars. She, my neighbor has recently moved away but I think it could be a case of a "mistaken identity" vendetta.

I have been going to get a steel fabricator to make me up a set of railings to raise the height of the low wall which will prevent the nightmare scenario of the bike upturned into the area also it will give me a second higher chaining point.

To be frank I really could have done without the hassle right now as I have a couple of quite serious issues on my mind but that's the way it goes I guesse. For now I'll rely on karma, perhaps electricity next time if it happens.

One good thing was that thanks to advice and a link posted here I had no problems getting them back up, at 59yrs (and-three-quarters) the old lower back aint what it was.  Cheers Folks. :thumb:

Again just wondering . . . exactly how would I wire up a bike to shock someone who touched it while it was parked?  Pictures would be good or diagrams.

dont know but ive been thinking of a personal parking device for home, kinda like the Bicycle rack idea, but a channel, of wood or metal ancored into the ground heavyly, and both front and rear wheels sit in the channel and the front tire would wedge into a V, a chain would run from just beyond the front wheel to the frame near base of the engine giving little to no slack to back the bike out of the V. just an idea anyway
