Quote from: BirdmoveJust a thought here.Since you are considering a GSXR, you might look into a Triumph Speed Four. These are naked
I like the backsides of those, but the front sorta comes up short..thank you for the suggestion.

Those scare me... not in the sense of the power, etc, but in the sense of...well...my bf's words this afternoon echo'd what I'd heard someone else say, "ride the Duc for two days, put it in the shop for four." I already HAVE one of those.  :dunno:

that is absolutely not true! my friend has a monster and the only time it's in the shop is for regular maintenance.

Well...the rumour is that I'm a girl and that I have a thing for purple...doesn't make it true, but if everyone says it enough, it becomes "common knowledge."  :dunno:

That is something we can debate until the end of time. It really depends on which Monster you get. The bigger the engine, the more problems it has, typically. From what I've gathered, most of the 620 Monsters are pretty damn good. Soon as you bump up to 800 (the 750 wasn't too bad, I think) you start getting some problems.  A lot of Duc owners say their bikes are perfect, but other FORMER Duc owners sold theirs because they are extremely problematic.

That being said, I lust after a Ducati Monster. I would absolutely LOVE one. Love love love love love one. 620 or a 750 would be great. I hear the 800S2Rs aren't that bad either. Time will tell.

I've been told by a couple avid Ducati owners that the air-cooled ones are reliable, the water-cooled ones are not.  They've owned four Ducatis since I've known them.

I have a lot of friends who have/had Monster (here in Italy almost everyone has/had a Ducati..) and never had problems; I think that much depends on how you treat the Moster... if you do the correct maintenance there'll be no big problems. The Monster is a 'rude' bike, has a very annoying clutch, you can't just buy it and treat it like a japanese bike.
I agree with AlphaFire: the 620 Monster is a wonderful and reliable bike, lots of italian beginners choose it as their first bike.
And it's sooooo beautiful....

Anyway, I vote for SV..... I think both FZ6 and Ninja 650 aren't as beautiful as the SV. And I've been told it's a great bike  :thumb:

Take a look at the MV Agusta Brutale it's a sweet bike, much better than the Duc Monster but thats my oppionion ( I can't spell anymore it seems)
If you want a full faired bike have you looked at the Triumph Daytona 675?  I liked that one alot too.  Both of those are v twins.  For what you listed, I'd pick the FZ6 ( and then I'd take off the ugly fairing and order the parts to make it look like the European FZ6) I know it's an I4 but something about the SV's just bothers me  :dunno:
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

Longinus

The daytona 675 is a three cylinder, not a V-Twin.

I haven't heard that the Ducs are unreliable. What I have heard is that when you take them in for the scheduled services that it is highly exspensive. Before you buy one you need to get a price on the first service.I've read posts here about people complaining about $250.00 first services-wait until you hear what a Ducati will cost you. They use the "Desmodromic" valve system-no return springs-in order to eliminate valve float.Valves are both opened and closed with mechanical rocker arms. These valves use shims on both the opening and closing mechanisms. Adjusting valves is really involved.

Valve adjustmensts on the Ducs can be a pain, depending on which enging you're using. If you're using one of the desmodue engines (pronounced desmo-doo-ay) it's got two-valves per cylinder, which means that you open up the head and they are right there, very easy to deal with. As soon as you get to three valves and 4 valves per cylinder the price goes up exponentially.

The SV650S are great bikes.  You're going to be very happy, methinks.   :thumb:

Wear red gear, and your average color will be purple.

Alphamazing

Yeah! Now pandy can turn into a blue-whore like me! I really like the look of the 2nd gen SVS. I'd probably go with a first gen naked model, though. They look nicer than the boxy 2nd gen nakeds. The angular lines go way better with the S model.

Yeah, I was surprised that I liked it so much. The seat height is "short friendly."

I wonder how fast one has to go for the blue bike and red gear to blur into purple. :P

As for the teal...  :? It's definitely better in person than on their site, but I still don't care much for it.  :P
