Hello all.

I just finished tuning up my 2000 GS500 trying to eliminate a warmup and hesitation problem its been having.  The oil change fixed the slow warmup time on my bike.  But now I'm having a new problem I was hoping you guys and gals could help me out with.

Symptoms: After warmup, in neutral, bike responds well to all proressive throttle inputs.  If I snap open the throttle to full open or put in a step input, instead of rolling on the throttle, the bike misfires / backfires and makes loud popping noises out the exhaust.  Is it simply not recommended for me to snap open the throttle?

Maintanance performed and things checked:  changed oil, replaced stock air filter with uni air filter, replaced plugs (old ones were clearly carbon fouled), adjusted idle speed to account for new air filter.  Bike has 5300 miles.

Any thoughts?

i wonder if the uni filter is making run a little lean now??? Usually people re-jet when they put on high performance air cleaner systems (Uni/K&N Pod).

That may be one of the problems.  I definitely had to readjust the idle speed after I installed the uni.  I'm worried about how it's effecting the power curve without new jets . . .

Is is a backfire or a pop on off-throttle?  The latter is indicative of excessively lean, while the former, in combination with carbon-fouled plugs, makes me think too rich.  What's the state of your jetting?
