would a 150/60/17 rear have trouble with clearance??  i just bought a 2000 and it looks like a 150 will be tight....real tight.  radials are the only way i want to go too
thanks for some help
no, no ,no  you need to give it more revs than just drop the clutch............ohhhhhhhhhh

This has been discussed very often, and you could view all the previous threads pertaining to this topic by searching, BUT...

From what i've gathered, a 150 tire does fit with VERY minimal clearance and it doesn't serve ANY other positive purpose other than cosmetically. In fact, I heard that it could actually make the bike handle worse.  :dunno:

According to GS-Jack...

QuoteSome 150/70 tires will just fit and some won't without altering the brake torque rod.

gs jack is correct some will and some wont depends on the brand, like shoes.  Only way is to try cosmetically i like it but after my 150 wore out i put the 140 back on because it handles better , you kinda have to hold it down in the corners with the wider tire.

The only way to get a 150 to work correctly and maybe provide you with better handling (you get better tire options once you hit 150) is by doing a GSX-R rear wheel swap.

I have the Pilot power 150/60/17 works and looks great.
1999 Black & Yellow GS500 K&N pod. after market jetting, short signals, Kat rear shock.
Tail light integrator.

I got a wheel from a 1989 gsxr750, and with a little modification ( check pablos gs page)
It only took me a couple of hours to do the whole job. The only hang-up I had was needing to bend the brake arm so the bads would not bindm do to the new angle.
No tire clearance issues.
The rim fit, and I added some Michilin pilots to the bike 150/60/17 in the rear, (I bought those off ebay) and it works great.
Go to google, and type pablo gs500, and you can find his site.

150 fits a bandit 400 rear rim well, ive run the 150's on stocker rims and
just ran a couple psi light.  the grip was great on the michlens i used.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.

if you feel you must change wheels you can but you dont have too stock wheel will work. the only clearance issue youll have is with the brake torc bar and it can be heated, repainted and put back on if need be.

same here. the 150 works great when new but after it wears a bit  the pinching of the tire on a stock rim causes it to feel like it falls in abruptly once you hit that "edge" created from the pinching-about 1/2" from tire's actual edge.

pirelli sport demons are exceptionally good bias ply tires. you dont absolutely need radials.

I'm going to be using my Sport Demons on the track on December 10th at Texas World Speedway in College Station, TX. I'll post results afterwards.
