Congrats on the new bike, I like it  :thumb: I am glad you got it instead of a GSX-R.
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

I'm quite sensible under all this purple fluff. :thumb:  ;)

Plus, I just KNOW my stepson will get a Gixxer 1K or 750 soon, and I'm hoping to be able to test ride it.

Damn you, that bike is so hot. I can't wait to start looking for a "new" (used) bike next spring or summer...at the same time my buddy buys his first street bike. I could just sell him the GS, but that'll never happen. She's all mine, baby. Unless the right offer came about...

Congrats! Seeing that really makes me lean towards the SVS rather than the FZ, TL, etc.

I really like the FZ, too...it's just too tall for me, and there's not much chance (if any) of lowering it. I also liked the bigger lean of the clipon bars on the SVS. The FZ is much more upright. They both RAWK, though!!!

And that FI was what I was after...if the GS500F had FI, I would have considered a new one as my next bike....

Taller, you say? Well that brings me back to the FZ then. I need to go do some dealership sitting.

The FZ1 is an absolute BLAST. It doesn't have the low clip on bars that the SV does, but that's what a lot of people like about it. Plus, you can just get some clubman bars or SM bars on there that will lower it fairly nicely, from what I've heard. I haven't ridden one personally, but I've ridden ON one. It screams and hauls like there is no tomorrow. The power just keeps coming and coming and coming and coming. Ah the power delivery of a big I-4. It's hard to get it to redline while staying within the bounds of legality though. You don't really need to rev it up that high to get it to power you around though.
Consider this, too. The FZ1 board is about as active, helpful, and quirky as ours. Good group of guys and gals over there.

The FZ6, according to the people on the FZ board (some have both, others HAD both, and sold the FZ6) isn't close to the level of comfort, ability, style, and all around goodness that the FZ1 is chocked full of.

Yeah, the FZ6 is significantly (to me) taller...I think by a few inches (at least that's how it feels!)... I may end up doing something to lower the SV a tiny bit. I can just about get the balls of both feet down, which is a big change since I'm used to being able to totally flat-foot it on the GS. So....RG... did you lower YOUR SV when you had it???

Very nice!  Congrats!

The digital speedo isn't as good for peripheral-vision glancing as an analog, but it really is good for keeping one speed going when you're on the freeway.

Clocks are invaluable.  I need to add one to my F.

Alphamazing

You can get any bike lowered, really. All you have to do is change out some of the rear suspension components, from what I've read. The SVS's seat height is 31.5", likewise the FZ6. FZ1's is 32.1 for the '06 while the 2005 and previous models were 31.5". So, the SV650S and the FZ1 and FZ6 all have the same seat height.

The GSF on the other hand has a seat height of 31.1 inches. So between your bike, and the others, and the GS it's only 0.4" taller.

Could be that the shape of the seat makes it feel taller...that is, it might force one to bend the knees more.  Dunno though, never sat on one.  :dunno:

Roadstergal

The seat on the SV makes you bend your legs out less than the 500F seat (those blasted 'wings' on the '01+ GS seats).  I actually felt better riding a stock SV than a stock GSF.

Alphamazing

The seat on the FZ6 isn't that good at all. I can flat foot with room to spare on an SV and the old FZ1 and the GS, but that FZ6 wasn't nearly as easy for me to do it. It's a hunkajunk.

The seat on the FZ6 is a lot wider. The SV seat is skinnier, but it has more padding than the FZ6, believe it or not!

With both bikes on sidestands next to each other, the FZ6 *LOOKS* taller by at least 2 inches...very strange! :dunno:

Haven't had too much experience with it yet (stepson rode bike home for me since it was dark when I picked him up). My bf has a bike 'puter digital speedometer on his FZ6 (read: accurate) that he put on after buying his FZ, and I'll probably do the same with mine if I find he's as off as I've found the Baby G to be.

Yeah, some people like them. I can't STAND how they look at all. The naked ones look WAY better, but still not as good as a good 'ol naked FZ1.
