2000 miles on bike...when to change tires?

I've searched the faq's but did not see anything on when to change the tires.  Usually after how many miles is it recommended to change the front tires and rear tires?

Well, tire wear is dependent on how the bike is ridden. If the bike is ridden hard the tires will wear out sooner. Estimate that stock tires will last at least 5000 miles ridden hard. Mine lasted 12,000 miles.
What kind of tires do you have now? Some tires have wear indicators (or wear bars), which are raised areas in the grooves; when you wear the tire down to these "bars", it's time to replace the tires.

Ha no..my bike is a '93 I bought it not too long ago after it sat for prolly 11 years (with 1100 miles on it) so the tires were crappy and full of dry rot

Just before you replaced them did you do the proper burnout untill they pop? Makes getting the rubber off so much easier ;)

Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

I didnt pop them but I did it for a while lol my dipshit cousin attempted to do it with his '05 R6 and he got it pretty good the first time, then he stopped and decided it would be a good idea to try in 6th gear.

Doesn't he know your supposed to just shift all the way up ;) Burnouts at 12k RPM in 6th... yikes... and hold on when it pops, good bye R6.

ah, thank you!     I was looking at the faq forum instead.

scratch -  well the bike is still at the dealers. I put a downpayment on it.  So I assume they are still stock.  From what I saw, they still had pretty deep grooves in them.

He's not the brightest guy i've ever met...he bought the r6 after he crashed his Smokin Joe and was in the hospital for like months. The doc there messed up and he got a settlement and went and bought the r6 with that.

Nice. Keep us posted on how long that R6 lasts ;)
Speaking of settlements, apparemtly some yahoo in San Francisco filed a class action suit against netflix because they couldn't get his movies to him in a day. Now, everyone gets a free upgrade for a month.

I had to change my stock tires out on my '04 at roughly 6000 miles. They were severely worn in the center, but barely at all on the sides.

Get some Pirelli Sport Demons. I'll swear by these things, I love them.

Wow I have 9600 miles on my stock tires and I haven't changed them yet.

I mean my back tire is completely bald down the center, but it still has tread on the sides. And it's not down to the steel belting yet. At least I hope there's steel belting, or else it'll just explode.

My front tire is fine, the wear was a little uneven but I fixed the air pressure and took it out to the twisties. It's ok now.

One day I'll be able to afford a new rear tire. I should take some pics.

Yeah, mine was getting bad down the center (it was beginning to resemble a trapezoid in its shape) so I decided to go ahead and get new ones so I wouldn't be frightened to ride in the rain or in a puddle, or across any sort of moist surface.
