I ran over a nail with my gs and decided its prolly time to replcae it instead of getting patched.  I searched around and seen the stock size is 130-70-17.  My bike has a 150/60/17.  Which tires should i get to replace, also what is the cheapest tire i can get, i do very little twisties, mainly a straight commute.  I have so much stuff to do on this bike this winter, $80 tires are out of my budget right now.  I searched and there is so much irrelevemt info out there its hard to find any definitive answers.  Thanks

Note, the tires listed on that FAQ question go from cheapest to more expensive, I believe. I should add that in there for reference.

Also, for what it is worth, I don't know what other stuff you have to do to your bike but I think TIRES are one of the most important. That is the rubber that meets the road, ya know? Tires are EXTREMELY important in any vehicle, but especially motorcycles since you only get two - make them count.

Good tires that are properly maintained can make or break a ride; they can sometimes mean the difference of safe and unsafe in various riding conditions like wet roads, tight corners, etc.

I know tires are not "fun" or even interesting...but I think it should be the last thing to be skimped on  :thumb:  Just MHO.

Grumble.  Just had to replace the rears on my car...puncture too close to the sidewall.  Nothing to add to the conversation...just annoyed.

i know you guys are trying to be helpful, but i didn't ask any opinions, im asking if anyone knows of a cheap place to get tires, and what sizes will fit on the gs well, i know my 150/60 looks a lot better than the skinny stock tires.  I was hoping someone could point me to a chart someone had made that had all the sizes possible

So basically you want the cheapest 150/60 tire you can find?

I don't know of any chart off the top of my head, but feel free to make one  :thumb:

150/60 tires wear more unevenly than stock tire sizes. If you want a good cheap tire that you won't have to replace quickly, go with a cheap stock size. The GS isn't unstable at speed on the 130s.

I got my Sport Demons from http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com

They were the cheapest. Look around at some of the online sites. Try MAW. You're going to have to look to find the best deals.

i currently have michelin power pilots, an they aren't unstable at all.  Im just not comfortable with a patch on a moto tire, nail is in the sidewall.  Im not even sure it could be patched.  And the things i gotta get this winter for 1 is to get the damn thing to actually run, iv'r alredy shelled almost 400 clams to get it to run half azz.  If i can ever get this one running right it will prolly be out the door so a new f can sit in its spot, so tires that last miles and miles aren't that big of a deal.

For a cheap but decent tire for commuter service that is also average in the twisties, I'd suggest a Kenda K671 from Chaparral for $48 for the 130/70 or $53 for the 150/70.  I think they charge about $9 shipping now.  I've used a couple, they're OK.

Cheapest tire I can think of off hand is the Duro HF918 in size 140/70 for $35 from AMT.  Add about $11 shipping for a single tire.  Never tried them myself so i can't say anything good or bad about them but someone here tried them awhile back.

chen shin himax  they run in the $50 range but your looking at 9000-12000 miles. which will give you a good mix of milage and feel.  with the basis of the bt-45's having a avrage of 4000 miles, it's like getting two tires for $25 each.

*note,  they make a 130/90r17 which will raise the rear about a inch, so they are not for shorties. and will also drop the given RPM for any gear by aprox 1000.  which will increase milage.

now this is great useable info, im bidding on a tire on ebay as we speak, so if i don't get it, then ill try one of those mentioned

Anyone wanna fess up to their cheapness and admit this?
