Hey I just got a 2002 GS500E from a dealer but I only got one key with it.  Seeing as I am terrified of losing it I was wondering if you had any suggestions abuot where to take it to get a duplicate.
I went to home depot and they don't duplicate suzuki keys.  When I went to a bike shop they said that I am going to have to bring in my ignition as well as the key.   I kinda don't wan't to take apart my ignition just to duplicate a freaking key.   How hard is it anyways?

go to a ace hardware that has a suz 14 or suz 15 (suz = suzuki) key blank and they will be able to make one for ya. or any decent locksmith will for 20 bux.

The key word there is "locksmith".   Home Depot or Pep Boys probably won't be able to do it, but an actual locksmith shop should be able to do it.

you can also order a blank key from a local dealer or bikebandit.com or mrcycles.com. then, bring that to walmart or home depot.

For some strange reason I have never understood  :? all the Shoe repair places in Europe cut keys, there is one in every town centre, if they don't have a Suzuki blank a Volvo does it.  A propper locksmith would knock you one up in seconds. :thumb:

so why did the suzuki dealer guy want me to take apart my ignition so he can look up the number on it?

aaronstj

I'm guessing the dealership can't cut keys, but they can order a new key based on the number on your ignition.  There are only so many keys per model of bike/car.  I've unlocked an almost driven away in the totally wrong car before. :)

I've found that the door key is pretty loose...  But, the ignition key is a lot more accurate.

I once opened a Ford with my VW key...  The funny part is that it hardly opened my VW.

I need a new key for my '04. It got bent somehow, but I don't want to get a crappy metal one. I want a nice key. Are the Suzuki blanks just the metal, or do they have the nice looking plastic covering around the part you turn with your hand?

it's a titanium body with carbon fiber handle.

if you order a blank from a dealer, you'll get one with plastic handle.

The plastic ones bend just as easily...  I have two... One has been a crescent several times and the other is a candy cane.

The only difference is that they take up more room.   :dunno:

Huh.. Usually the door key is the ignition key. I would hate to have another key. I had one car with a seperate gas cap key. No.no.no I take it back, that car also had seperate start/open keys. Jeeze, 3 keys? Must have been why it's gone.

Oh, and I have locked my desk with a paperclip before. .. It is still locked. Try the paperclip trick. It's not easy.

Harr harr. I think dealer blanks are like, $10 or more. I just don't like the look of the bare metal all over it. I like to be able to see the logo so I know which key I'm trying to use

The problem really comes when you have two of the same makes both with the same key fob, and both in your pocket. Best way to check which is which? Use the horn button

The unlock button works too, but just isn't as much fun.

How much does it cost to order a key from a dealer? I never had an original key to begin with.
