well, I'm breaking my "no posting" streak, to which I shall return after this, but I wrote them a reply to that article, and I thought everyone should see it.

"Not only is that one of the most idiotic, biased, stereotypical articles I have ever read, but I found it to contain typos as well. Here's an example:

Anyone with basic proof reading skills and a grasp of the English language would have caught "notice" being used for "attract". Show me ONE REAL STUDY that proves motorcyclists have a higher incidence of posessing controlled/illicit substances than other motorists. The last sentence of that quote is rediculous as well. In a few cases, some pedestrians have a warrant out for their arrest, so should we boycott walking? Maybe if you had presented this article in a less biased manner, you would have gotten through to some of the "belligerent" motorcyclists you are so against. However, I feel that this article will do nothing but infuriate them, and make them strive to be even louder, just to upset ignorant, close minded people like you. Have a great day.."

Thought you would like to know of a very special invention to help assist you in your cause its called earplugs try using them and stop trying to destroy everyone elses fun its people like you that have made the world the uptight no fun place it has become by making legislation on certain things just because you don't like them. I like noise but you dont see me trying to start some web based movement to have you banned so pull your head in and just deal with it and atleast protest something worth protesting, there is alot of suffering in the world and your worried about the sound of cars and bikes. PLEASE wake up to yourself.

They also talk about some motorcyclists doing stunts on public roads. Yes I do think those motorcyclists should be off the road, but I also think that people who drive and eat, put on make-up, but mostly READ WHILE DRIVING, should be off the road as well. It is highly dangerous to read while driving since reading requires you to be looking at something other than the road. But they won't ever look into that. As for the noise, why do they put it all towards the motorcyles? How many MORE cars are just as loud? I'm not saying I'm against loud cars, because my car would fall right into that group even being in the legal limits.

EDIT: The more things I see on their website the more mad I get.

I can understand their point.  Harleys going down the street at 2am *is* annoying.  However, it isn't the end of the world like they play it out to be.  Learn to ignore it.    

Where I draw the line is pulling in stuff that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH NOISE.

I didn't find the article particularly offensive.  

If the writer really has that much problem with noise pollution, then the very simple solution is to move to a less populated or more rural area.

If they think that motorcycles are loud, then let them try living close to a highway and listening to semi trucks barrel down the road at all hours of the day and night.... or an airport, or train tracks, etc...

Motorcycles should probaby be farther down on the list of concerns.

As for bikers being aggressive... that varies from person to person.  I do think that putting yourself in a more defensive mode helps to keep you out of trouble on the road.  Relaxing too much in traffic can get you hurt!

Well, I've been riding motorcycles for a long time. I love them as much as anyone, and more than most. I get very angry at  anyone who makes excessive noise while passing my house in the wee hours of the morning. People do this with motorcyeles with straight pipes, as well as with loud stereos and loud pipes on cars. It's all the same.

I find parts of that article very offensive. It contains a number of factual errors, of course, and a great deal of prejudice.

I also think that  articles like this are inevitable as long as there are bikers out there who act the way the article describes, which there are.  

While the article didn't communicate its central idea very well, I think what it was trying to get at is basically true. The motorcycle itself is not a symbol of anything - it's a very fuel efficient and enjoyable means of transportation and recreation. Some in the United States have caused it to become a symbol of irresponsible, inconsiderate, dangerous, and stupid behavior.  And it isn't just the irresponsible riders who have done this. There are a lot of folks in advertising, the media, and in the motorcycle manufacturing and distributiion businesses who profit from the "bad boy" image associated with motorcycles. Let's face it folks; these people are not doing us any favors!  

We can write nasty notes to the people who wrote the article, but if we really want to see this kind of thing stop, the best way to do it is to project a better image of ourselves and who we are.

What a total bunch of crap.  I read through that whole page and the writer complains about everything about bikes, not just noise.  I think he/she should take one for a ride.  I think the writer has confused bike gangs with bikers(people who ride bikes).

I'm an SICK and TIRED of loud pipes on Harley's.

Yes Harley's  - it's nothing more than "LOOK AT ME!"

It wasn't enough to have a Harley - because everybody now has one and it's the new fad (WAS the new fad.)

So then they have to dress up like a bunch of wannabes.  Well, they figured out that they all look alike so now it's loud pipes.

I was at Myrtle Beach Bike Week last year and every stupid F*** who left a parking lot  or drove away from a red light has to tear out and expose everyone to his open pipe.

Wow dumb sh*t....that's impressive, glad you blew my eardrums out....thanks...never in my entire life have I heard a staight pipe. You have a true command of the throttle.

If aftermarket pipes are ever banned, it's because of these jerks.

This rant does not include Ducati's.

Now, as this is obviously incorrect (I, for one, do not fall into any of those categories), I decided to help the car owner to a correct sticker.
