DSM refers to Diamond Star Motors   AKA  Mitsu built cars

Blazinjr you are right, the SRT-4 isn't technically called a Neon but we all know better  :P

http://www.allpar.com/reviews/2003/srt-4.html

If I am not mistaken, I think the Chrysler PT Cruiser has the same platform as the Neon and the SRT-4, but the PT Cruiser GT has the same engine/turbo as the SRT-4.

Also, the only Chrysler SRT that comes to mind is the Crossfire SRT-6.  That's a snappy little car, I would love one.

SRT-4 only goes to the SRT-4 car oddly enough, even though the PT Cruiser GT has the same setup I would think it would have been called the PT Cruiser SRT-4 but it isn't.. kinda like the the SRT-8 is what, the Charger, a Jeep, the Magnum? The SRT-10 I think is the Viper SRT-10 and the Ram SRT-10.

Ah hell I dunno

Quote from: PhaedrusJetswing - how do you figure the Neon is a Chrysler SRT? The Neon SRT-4 is a Dodge. What are you rambling about?   SRT isn't just for Dodge's. I know Jeeps have the SRT designation too.  :dunno:
daimlerchrysler owns chrysler, dodge and jeep and they all have srts. chrysler is th emother brand. if you go to their website they list srt4 (neon) too.

DSM refers to Chrysler too.  That is the Diamond.  Mitsu is the Star.

Correct?  DSM could even refer to an older Eagle Talon.  Correct?

Yes the PT Cruiser GT and the SRT4 share the same 230hp engine but the intake design and the PCM limiting boost through the first 2 gears on the PT really cuts down on the fun part and really slows it down on the 1/4 mile along with having more weight.  I raced a PT GT,  I took him by about 2 car lengths.

The PT Cruiser Limited has a available turbocharged 2.4-liter DOHC engine only producing 180 horsepower, 30 more than the standard and it comes with a auto stick transmission.

As far as the ywo cars sharing the same platform, mm no.  Similar yes

My wife and I had a 2002 Pt Cruiser with a 5-speed, we loved it up until it got rear ended :(     I got to compare it to a 01 Neon while they were both up on lifts.  engines will interchange but transmissions I don't think they will.  suspension setup is different as is the floor pans setup.

i thought neon and pt cruiser shared the same plateform and engine, at least at one point.  :dunno:

Neon standard 132-horsepower 2.0-liter SOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder

PT Cruiser standard 2.4-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder DOHC 150 hp

The 2.4 liter engine can easily be swapped into the Neon with little modification.

Yeah, and I believe the suspension is almost identical. I could be wrong though, it has happened once or twice.  :P

Rear supension on the PT is straight beam axle with trailing arms and the Neon is 4 wheel independent suspension.  :P

When the PT was in developement and in prototype at the shows the speculation was that it was on the Neon subframe but it was not.

"The Cruiser shares a number of key components with the Neon, as well as the slightly larger Cirrus and Stratus models, which provide Cruiser its 2.4-liter, 16-valve engine."

"The PT Cruiser's interior is derived from the new 2000 Neon"

none us model still uses the 2.0 liter engine from neon.

The PT cruiser I had, the interiors only resemblance was around the radio and center dash.

under the sheet metal they share some stuff, and the 2.4 does come from the older Cirrus, Stratus, base mini vans, and Avenger.

I figure when the Caliber comes out the 2.0 SOHC will go away and be replace by the 2.4 DOHC or the 2.4 SOHC that powers the Stratus Coupe base model.

don't hold your breath.  It has a continuously variable transaxle.  It doesn't really shift gears.  Like riding a jet ski or snowmobile.  Boring!!!! ZZZZzzzz.

Ask anybody that has driving a Ford 500.  No shifty = no funny.

i always wanted to buy a neon... cheap. but I don't know how they came to have a reputation of bad engines and overall, bad cars (at least on my head)... is it because of dodge? does it matter at all?

what im trying to say is... are neon's good or not? (cheap parts, easy fix, do it yourself)
Caturday yet?
