Valued comments Blueknyt, I can tell you have some experience in this area and respect the fact. I recognise the names you quote and would know what the items are if I was to see them but have no working experience with them, my background is industrial not automotive and as such its doubtful you would be familiar with my side of things and I dont mean that in a negative way. This is a link to the website of my company who I have worked for since leaving school 23 yrs ago, it will give you an idea of the type of things I get involved with.

Its is a risky methed with potential to screw up we agree on that fact and its never been doubted but there again so is the "correct" method and by a far larger margin for a novice who is keen but has little experience. Removing and dismantling the engine to access the output shaft seal will present a whole series of problems challanges and difficulties for an inexperienced individual with limited facilities even with a good workshop manual and as such I would not reccomend it.
