Hello every one!  I just took the MSF course last weekend and it was great.  I have never been on a bike before then.

I am looking to get a GS500.  What are some things I should look for when I find one.

Thanks

Welcome to the site and Congratulations on passing MSF!

When looking at a used GS check the inside of the tank for rust. This is a common problem on these bikes. If there's a little rust you can treat it and be done with it but more rust might have gotten into the carbs (requiring rebuild/cleaning) or into the cylinders...much more work I think.

Otherwise, they're bulletproof in reliability. Check my site for more info (such as kbb and Nada bike values in your case) and mods and also check the main page here at gstwin.com for lots of info.

Welcome!  I took the class last year and found a 97 GS for sale in the paper...didn't know anything about this site or the GS at the time, but boy am I glad I got it   I am in Central NJ, so when you get your bike and feel comfortable riding, we can join up for a ride.  Good Luck!

John also does burnouts and hits cars in front of him.

Did I mention that he doesn't have any toes?

He does have great ER Polaroids though.

Welcome to the nut house, GS is a great learner/commuter/weekender/mini tourer/stunt bike. When you look at it, check it starts and idles from cold ok, that it doesnt blow smoke, the wheels rotate freely, all the controls work, check the condition of the chain n sprockets, the electrics are good, the steering head bearings are ok, and yeah if its got a service history. There isnt much to these bikes which makes em simple and easy to maintain and they have a bit of get up and go about them. Its a great site here lots of info and help and were good for a laugh here too. Please dont start any threads about oil, re jetting, and fuel lol.  :D

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.
