Well i went out for a short ride ,was kinda cold, to a buddies house when going about 40 a cat darts across the street. I swerved a little i didnt wanna get to wild and lose it , plus it was heavy traffic, despite my best effort the cat got it. Did i mention it was a black cat? I laid two tire tracks across that cats body, but lucky for me i got lucky and he didnt get tangled up in a wheel or anything. I slowed down to kinda gather my self and as i turned there was a cop that seen the whole thing. He pulled me over asked me if i was ok and then chewed me out for hitting the cat sayin that i should have tried harder to miss it. I guess he would have been happy if i would have laid the bike over instead of hitting the cat. GO FIGURE! anyway who cares right lol .

HAHAH That's terrible...and funny. (I hate cats) I can't imagine a cat getting caught in my wheel and just spinning around in there as I ride...that would really suck.

Now let's just sit and wait for davipu n friends to reply with the kitty cat jokes...

Well, the owner of the cat probably cares  . In New York, you can get a ticket for hitting a domestic animal and not reporting it. At least the cop saw you and you interacted with him, so even if you were in NY you are safe there. :thumb: Glad you didn't get hurt and that the bike is OK. As for the cat..well, I guess it was his her time to go. :dunno:
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own. We lost a good friend and good member of this board. Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

I guess you skipped the bad luck because it didn't technically cross your path...

Were you doing 40 in a residential 25? I can see you getting a chewing for that.

The :guns: :guns: &%X!*# that hit Oatey didnt stop, the guy behind him did and brought him back to my dad. The jerk just kept going, apparently he didnt hit his brakes or anything. I guess I would just have the courtesy to stop and see if it was someones pet or if I could help in any way. A friend of mine did go down once after hitting a cat, flung his gf into a ditch  he was a squid anyway.

If I wanted to eat cat I'd spend more time at my local Vietnamese restaurant.

If I hit a domestic animal, you better believe I'd find the owner to let them know what happened; somebody is going to pay for the damage to my ride. If I am riding down the street at the speed limit and an animal runs out and I kill it, why is it my fault or responsibility to find the owner to tell them what 'I' did? Their animal endangered my life, damaged my property, and fulfilled its place in Darwin's Theory, and I owe the owner what?

Do you have the same attitude towards hitting young kids?

Ouch!!!

If a parent is letting their child run in the street Darwin is there but in a different direction. For me personally, it would be a more devistating situation. I have issue with people letting their animals run free then freaking out at people who are victims of their negligence. So to answer your question, I would feel devistated but still hold the child's parents responsible for forcing such devistation into my life. (This is still in the event that I am not breaking the law at the time).

You don't think people should let cats run free!! Should they keep it in the house all day and take it for walks on a lead.

That 9th life was a bummer...

I like cats but don't feel bad about that one. I'd feel worse if he'd crashed the bike.

Children can be taught not to run into the street, and if they can't grasp that concept the parent is responsible for them and their actions-just like for a cat. You can't teach a cat to stay in the yard, so how can you blame the driver when the owner knows what can happen if they don't keep the cat safe.

agreed...I like animals.. but domestic animals need to be just that... domestic.. as in "within the domicile"... not in the roads... I remember when I locked up the brakes in my mustang and skidded for a good ten feet cuz some dumbass cat ran out in front of me... I almost needed new pants... if I'd hit it (doing 50 in a 55), minding my own business, is it my fault, or the fault of the owners who weren't taking care of it? I'll save you the thought, it's NOT MINE..

Yes, that's exactly how I feel... a domesticated animal belongs in a home, behind a fence,or on a leash, somewhere where the owner is in control... I don't feel that I, or anyone else should be held responsible for the owner's lack of responsibility...

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Oy vey ... I am agreeing with ya ... I think its the end of the world ... But I believe I'd most likely hit a dog before I hit a cat though ... usually dogs get over excited at the sound than cats do ... either way I will drag the freaking thing over to the owner and make them pay for damage to my bike ... you bet, and yea call the cops in as well ...
Cool.

Eventually. Young kids lack judgement, though (up through the teen years, the part of the brain that seats judgement continues to develop), and they do run out of their parents' grasp when the mood strikes them. It's part of being a kid. You eat paste, you try to get the girls to play doctor, you run around a lot and try to escape your parents.

You should always be looking for what's beside the road as well as what's on it. Kids are volatile. Animals are volatile. If you're in a residential zone, you need to slow down and watch for the above. If there are a lot of parked cars that can hide kids and animals, give them room and slow down.

"I didn't see it" is the SUV's excuse for hitting a biker. I don't buy that one, and I don't buy it from a motorcyclist trying to play the Bigger Makes Right game on the next smaller size.
