I've noticed that 'Busas in general don't tend to be the squids.  They cost too much; they're for guys who are past the sportbike phase and want something comfy and faired with enough torque to uproot moderately-sized houses.  Squids go for the inline 600s and sometimes SV650s - just affordable enough to be the ridiculously overpowered killmefast bike of choice.

ninja_steve

well, i saw a busa rider here who was apparently a really fast 1/4 mile rider try to neogtiate a small swerve and dumped his bike in the parking lot of our store.  average squids buy either the r6 or gixxers, but the kind i'm taking about all have chromed, stretched busas

:x  i cant stand ppl that are allll about  the busa ..... drives me nuts .. i can by a gixxer600 or a cbr 600 or a r6  or any 600 for cheaper then the busa .. and run what .. a sec. lower then the busa .. few mods .. and it will look like a joke :| if i was gonna spend that kinda money on a bike .. i'd  spend it on a RC51 :) honda AMA super bike .. at least you can take it down a winding road just as easy as you can down a 1/4 track :P

Hayabusas have their place.  They're the M5s of the bike world.

Alphamazing

Decades down the road, I can see myself owning a Busa for sport touring. They're pretty good bikes, comfy, powerful, and not too bad in turns if you know how to get around on it. Like RG said, it's mainly for people who want something fully faired without enough torque to not care about gear.

I'm sure a nice fellow who works for an investment bank in Belgium so happens to have a R6 for sale for the low price that the kid is looking for. He even probably has a brother-in-law that works for a shipping company right here in the States that will handle any shipping issues for him so that won't be an issue...

i beg to differ, here at barney's you don't have to be rich, just have good credit and no common sense. Last year a guy got a hayabusa for his first bike and wrecked it before he got out of the parking lot. Last christmas two people purchased two different R1s and both wrecked right in front of Barney's at the same time.

Good credit doesnt seem to come with good sense to often...

to finish it off, on one saturday i saw three guys (at different times) riding a hayabusa without helmets and one of them was dragging both feet on the ground while taking a corner? :?  :?  :?  :nono:

it would be the equivalent of me hanging off my bike as if in a corner only I would be going in a straight line...

I only hope this is a joke. I think he will either crash and hurt himself or scare the c@@p out of himself and give up bikes forever. I have a cbr600 and when the roads are wet I can spin the back wheel under power while driving straight. I have been riding for 3 years and know not to panic so I can control it, I think maybe a novice might crash if this happened.

I call dibs on the parts that are still good after the crash

yeh i was gonna say that someone should offer him a coffin, save him some time.
Ride as fast as you can, that way you stay ahead of all the accidents!

JustinNoob

Who cares about this guy anyway?   OK, so maybe he won't be as skilled a rider for not starting out on the GS500 like all of us PRUDES, but he just might survive.  Maybe his motive for getting a moto is different.  Perhaps he will just cruise around town and prefers the sportbike look.  Not everyone has to be a GP racer/master of the twisties.

I think people here kind of have this self-righteous attitude that everyone else has to start on something small and wimpy like the gs500 or they will die. :bs:

You have not ridden small and wimpy, my friend (although from looking at your avatar, you do have some familiarity with the concept...).

It's a general truism on cars and bikes that starting small makes the operator fast.  There are exceptions, but that is the rule.

calamari

what's so 'special' about opening the throtle and going really really fast in a straight line? (busa/m5) a monkey can do that? or even a robot can.

i will never understand these foos buying faster bikes.

if/when I upgrade (not anytime soon), I will get a faster bike, as long I can still lean hard and keep it under control.
Caturday yet?

<clip>i dont want anything that looks like the front and backseat are shared as one either, preferalbly, gsxr, cbr, yzf, zx</clip>

It's all about the looks...
