I'm having a hard time decided wether to get this http://portland.craigslist.org/bik/115770343.html trek 1000. It has 2000 miles. What do you think?

i ride a specialized allez.  year 2001.

We had a cycling team where i went to college ... in fact they won nationals every year.....  crazy mfers but very cool!!!

I think i'm gonna do the lance armstrong ride next year. 100 miles. time for training! I just hope I can keep up with my uncle, as sad as that sounds.

I pitty you fools that pedal on the road....it gets so boring....me ...I have to go for a ride atleast once a week on my Specilized Rockhopper a1 to keep sane....bicycling in the snow it fun, the mud is a blast, and off-road is a constant challenge so I don't fall asleep

mileage is relatively meaningless on a bicycle. "This bike is fast" is not true. the rider is fast. he should have said "This bike is light". that would make it more desirable.

component group and wheels not high quality. for the money it might be alright but you'd be better off getting something else I think, and spending a little more money.

100 miles isn't too hard.  It's just loooooong! Be in good cardiovascular shape and have a butt that is acclimated to the seat, and you're good to go.  And eat!

Keep looking?... the price isn't bad, but it all depends on how much riding you plan on putting in and how serious you want to get.  You can always resell the bike after getting your feet wet and knowing what you want!  Proper upkeep is much more important than mileage.

No riding for me right now... Hunters in the forest preserves, and road conditions are a little too messy here for a decent road ride

I found a new 2004  old stock trek 1000 for $400 at a bike shop and bought it. I don't need anything that is super expensive, it's more about how good of shape your in anyway, and for me I wouldn't be any faster on this bike than on the lance armstrong bike.  The only things I plan on doing to it now are clipless pedals, probably aero bars, and extra tubes!

I've got a Profile forward slant seat post if you were going to do triathalons. I was about to put it up on ebay. you want it? I'll sell for cheap.

I've never used one before so I'm not really sure if I would need it. Is it more comfortable? Or just makes you more aerodynamic?

more comfortable if you're in the tri-bars. only need it if all you're going to do are tri's but now I remember you're wanting to do centuries...better farther back instead of more forward. never mind.

ya we usually dissassemble our bikes and paint them brown anyways install a gun rack  and GPS system sense we seem to get sort of loss out there on the trail some times the ones who live in shanty cabins were from the pre-GPS days.....*sniff* their long lost bikers....haha
