Guys,

I don't care what you are wearing, flip-up, half helmet or full face. JUST WEAR SOMETHING. In florida they have no helmet law.

I just found out that my mom was out riding with my dad last week and got into an accident at about 15mph. She smacked her head on the bars and was knocked unconcious because someone cut her off and braked really fast. My dad about had a heart attack, lucky, he was just a couple lengths behind her and was able get to her quick. They called an ambulance and she spent two days in the hospital. They say that she will be ok, but she punctured an eardrum when she fell, has a small hairline skull fracture, and she dropped a 30k harley on its side because she went unconcious.

Please,

WEAR A FRICKING LID, FOR CHRIST SAKE. DONT GIVE ME ANY OF THAT "ANTI HELMET LAW" "HELMET LAWS SUCK" "RIDE FREE" "LIVE TO RIDE, RIDE TO LIVE" HARLEY shaZam! THAT MY PARENTS RAM DOWN MY THROAT. HELMETS SAVE YOUR DAMN LIFE. MY MOM AND DAD BOTH SAY THEY STILL WONT WEAR ONE. WTF?!?!?! JESUS!! I AM SO PEEVED.

Wow, sorry to hear about this. And I agree you should always wear a helmet.

A helmet is not an accessory - it is part of the BIKE.  :thumb:

DUDE! You really hit home with this one. I get into so many flippin arguments with people about that. I mean....sure the GS is not a crotch rocket but I can go fast enough to turn me into a deadly flying object and not only kill me but someone else if I hit a windshield or something.
I think a helmet is a very important part of the whole picture. Get a lid on that head dam it!!!!! :x

Turkina

And make it a real goddamn helmet, not a brain bucket!  :x

Those helmets with the flip-up chin bar are a good suggestion for the chatty/need to drink or smoke/have a hard time putting helmet on types of people.

Well, i meant drinking water and other non-alcoholic beverages!

sorry to hear about that hope she will be ok
but always wear a full face helmet Ive met people in wheel chairs who were wearing half face helmets their chins hit their chest so hard the impact caused spinal damage.

my arguement to customers that dont want to wear/buy lids:

you can fall and split your head open walking.  imagine what could happen at 15mph?  30? 50? 80?  yeah wearing a FULL FACE lid is a good idea.   :dunno:

You can go fast enough on a skateboard...  a 15 MPH impact to your head can kill you.  A 50 MPH impact to your head WILL kill you.

Helmets are good...

When parents no longer have kids at home, they turn into teenagers...  Tell them that they're grounded!!!

yea, I tell them the SAME things. They just do not listen. I have been down to florida to ride with my parents, and their friends (harley crowd) look at me crooked or call me a kitty cat because I ride with a helmet on. FUG IT. It is MY head. I just wish that my fam, who I care about allot would ride with a helmet.

(they also hate my rented sport bike.. but whatever.. my dad has a sick streetfighter busa)

One of their friends said.. "If its my time to go.. then well.. its my time to go.."

I don't want that time to come pre-emptive.

I'm all for a universal helmet law across the US.  If seatbelts are the law for cagers, how is it logical that helmet use should not be required for riders?

I high sided this summer at about 20mph and came down on the back of my head.  Had I not been wearing there is no way I would have been able to get up from that.

Just had one of the guys from work break two ribs and puncture a lung and that was while racing a pushbike in an event so anytime your riding any sort of bike you should wear protection helmet gloves boots jackets pants it maybe hot and time consuming but so is stay in hospital

You know...  I hate laws that protect us from ourselves...  I don't think helmets should be LAW...

But, I'm gonna wear mine anyway.   :thumb:

1. See if they still think like that when there face is removed by the road and say well dont know about you but my head is worth the $$$ spent on a helmet maybe theirs isn't

2. it may sometimes be true but tempting death is just stupid and sometimes you don't die you stay a busted up mental mess see if he would like that time to come.

There quotes are trying to be mucho but just come out as stupidity.

Take your parents motorcycle keys until they smarten up.

Next time someone calls you a kitty cat for not wearing a helmet, dare them to race you "Mad Max Style."

"Two riders enter, one with helmet leaves!"

Glad your mum is ok. I for one am not a proponent of mandatory helmet laws. Which is due to the fact, I don't think we need the gov't telling us something is unsafe for it to be patently unsafe.  It's a matter of choosing what is your own level of safety. You want to ride sans helmet, it's your choice, but you assume all responsibility for your actions.  I for one think NOT wearing a helmet is dumb and I would never do it.

Still, I pray your mum will be ok.

Some people really do need Governments to tell them whats safe because they will do something stupid with no thought for theres or others saftey people have to get over this "i don't want to do what the Gov tells me its my choice" attitude most laws are there for a reason some maybe unjust but on the whole most laws are right like dont kill people, dont rob people etc.
Although  most will say it my responsibility i'll make the choice its not the same thing they say when there in hospital going through rehab etc its then comes the excuses, the road, cars, other bikes, drop bears etc all for something that could have been saved had they had the right gear on. Not saying all accidents are like that some are correct excuses but it always seems to be the shorts and Tshirt brigade that try to blame someone else for there injuries because they were excercising there right to be an idoit.

I've thought about this too with respect to the seatbelt in the car.  Why should I have to wear a seatbelt if I don't want too?  It's my choice right? However, my car has an airbag so I always wear my seatbelt so the airbag doesn't kill me.

The flip side of this is that it does hurt other people if you don't wear your helmet/seatbelt.   Who do you think suffers if you are unable to work anymore, unable to eat except for that tube they stuck down your throat and unable to wipe yourself anymore ... your family.

..  and you know what?  People are dumbasses.  There is a surprisingly large number of us who have such bad judgement it takes a state law to keep us from killing ourselves.  Honestly.

Anyway ... it's good to see that no one here wants to ride without a helmet. :thumb:

I've been around since before there was a helmet law in California, and I prefer(ed) to ride around in a helmet. Now, for those who didn't have a choice (after the helmet law), they got used to wearing a helmet. And, you know what I say? "Get used to wearing a helmet." As for lifechanging events like having a helmet on when you crash, how about the lifechanging event of becoming a parent? If you didn't want to be a parent, you'd better wear that helmet...
