I don't know how many of you read my initial sign on earlier this month. I had just bought my first GS500 with a dead cylinder and luckily (I thought) fixed it with a spark plug. Well, 3 weeks and 700 miles later the cylinder is dead again with a fouled spark plug that looks like a coal miner's socks after a 12 hour shift.

Suspecting mixture problems I disassembled the offending carburetor and discovered right off the bat a missing O-ring and (most important) the spring seat was missing from the jet needle so that it flopped around without any connection to the diaphragm. I suspect this is the work of a 'carburetor cleaning' by a wanna-be motorcycle mechanic that thought knowing which end of a screw driver to hold was adequate knowledge to perform the task.

I need a carburetor kit with a few more parts than just gaskets. Where could I purchase parts for these carbs besides the local Suzuki dealer who will take me to the cleaners?

Side note: I have noticed a lot of motorcycles on e-bay and in local paper listings that brag about 'just cleaned carbs'. I wonder if that is the reason they are selling the bike? I wouldn't touch them unless the price was discounted the cost of a new carb. On numerous occasions I heard or read comments from motorcyclist that are having engine troubles "that couldn't be the carbs because the were just cleaned". Carb cleaning seems to be vary popular and I don't know why. How many times do these same people clean their carbs on their automobiles. You use the same gas in both of them. Oh well, enough rambling, I guess I'm just pissed because I bought a bike previouly owned by "Joe I-don't-know-my-butt-from-a-hole-in-the-ground-but-I'll-f*uk-with-the-bike-anyway.

Well, ive never heard of anyone being so moronic as to permanently remove parts in "carb spring-cleaning" procedure.. but to each his own i guess... I dont think you have to worry about this happening on other bikes.. and carbs are very very easy to clean.

For the parts.. Srinath said they are pretty cheap at boneyards.. just have to look. Also, him or someone on here may have the parts you need. Try a post in the Classifieds here.

yeah this case is a weird one.. unless the PO lost the parts and just figured it would be ok to toss them. I wonder if a dealer did the work?

Its not alright to have extra parts when your done?! Can I make my old handlebars like the steer horns on Boss Hog's Caddy and mount them to the front of the bike?  :lol:  Dunno what to do with the old springs and mirrors tho, suggestions?

I have carbs and pieces lying about...However it will take me forever to locate them especially the tiny parts....I just put some major effort into finding one together for Rashad...(which BTW is awaiting confirmation to send the coils as well off my 91 from you Rashad) So Lemme know if you can wait..I dont want to make you wait...

Thanks Seshadri. I appreciate the offer. I am going to try to find the parts at Dennis Kirk or Bike Bandit or something like that first, but if I strike out I'll let you know and if you can find me a spring seat and some o-rings I'll pay well for them.

If I can find it you can have it free...wont even be able to look for a few days...why...yea my garage is taking on water...The entire stuff is stuffed into the back third and I cant touch any of it till the garage is fixed...
