With warmer days here .. who has been speeding????

I nearly hit a ton today on the freeway. I was getting home from work and on the 134 East (from pasadena -> glendale). There is a stretch of about 3 miles with no entrances or exits. Anyway I found myself in 5th gear doing 85.. so I switched to 6th and next thing I know im nearly hitting 100.

I slowed down as soon as I noticed. Boy had I got a ticket it would have really sucked and if I was over 100 I woudl have my licence revoked.

How the heck do I stop myself from speeding so fast. I mean this morning I was doing 65 in a 35 on the way to school.

Once i noticed it I slowed down. Some how the engine power + the sound and the feeling of constant pull makes me want to go faster and faster...

damn it I hate this.. I dont want to blemish my almost perfect driving record ( I have one accident at fault - when i did the solo drop / crash when i first got the bike ).

if you have a perfect driving record, how would they revoke your license?

Now we are getting some truth outta ya!

My solution to this problem would be to find a safe place to get these primal urges out of your system! The track is a great place to do this, if it is an available option. If not, try and find quite roads were cops don't generally hang out etc. Above all, if your speeding - make sure its safe... fines can be paid and licences renewed but you only get one life!

I know the stretch you mean. Above Eagle Rock, right? You have to be ready to get on it becuase it is kind of a steep incline and you need a bit of speed to get  over it. That is the very spot where I blew my engine on my old Knighhawk.

Speeding?  Not us!

The avg speed on Route 24 from the southern area of MA to Rt 93 is about 80-85.  This morning we hit 90 easy.  I looked down and was floored.    :o   Then we settled at a nice 87 or so....  I actually had plenty of room in front of me and surprisingly I had no one creeping up on me either!  Very odd for MA- but I am not complaining!

I never speed. I never lanesplit just to get past slower cars on the roads, let alone in traffic on the freeway. I've never flown past JohNLA doing 120 in the desert.

I used to be a speed demon until I racked up 4 speeding tickets.  Now I simply pick my places to speed.  But I know what you mean man, for some reason 60mph FEELS like 30mph and so on.  Speeding is effortless on a motorcycle.

Just pick your spots to speed to get your fix and then slow down. I find myself gassing it more that the hot weather is here. It's mainly to cool off.  I love it when I sweat it out at a stop light, then start moving again.  The air on my slightly wet body feels good........ you know what i mean

I think there's a more appropriate forum for that! :?

It's the twist of the wrist that gets us all.  Remember, it works both ways.  Dave Dispane did a great article on motorcyclist about the demon of speed that lurks on our right shoulder.  but like Keyser said, take it to the track cause anything over 25 above the speed limit the judge can suspend your license for 6 months to a year depending on where you live.

I try to stay no more than 10 over the limit. I have a new speedo which is almost dead on so that helps. When I KNEW the speedo was off I'd justify it to myself.

"Oh I'm not THAT much over"
Until I got a speeding ticket for 20 over

I've been a good boy since then. Although traffic was going 85 on the way into work this afternoon. That was fun :)

There should be no speed limits :) but that opens up a whole new world of problems. I cant imagine having a rocket with over 100 horse, what a waste, 40 is plenty to get me in trouble ;)

john

FWIW I also try to keep things to no more than 10 over also.  Most cops (but not all) will ignore a bike at 10 over.  In my car I try to stay at 5 over.  I know I'm a granny :P

I am definitely going to have to go to track days when I get home from Iraq to get the need for speed out.  You don't know what it's like being so far from your bike!  IT SUCKS!  I miss that more than anything else!  Well, now since I don't have a fiance any more.  But still, it SUUUUUUCKSSSS!

Ride fast,
Ride safe!

What you need to do, is to drive in a lower gear than you need to. Whenever I drive around the city, I never go above 3rd gear. Seems to do the trick for me.

 hey bix, thank you and the others for what you are all doing.
ive got a brother over there in mosul, (101 abn). you miss your ride, i feel your pain man, i tell you what though, if the mil. would have me, id be there too. but look at it this way, when you get back, just think of all the fun you'll have.  :guns:  :thumb:   btw, while you are gone, have someone you can trust to start and run your gs, and ride once in a while, so it'll be ready to go when you return.

 keep any eye where the cops are, and pick your places to open 'er up CAREFULLY. cause once you figure out where they are, they change occasionally. tactics and locations. keep your eyes peeled, try to use gearing to scrub off speed if possible. ive always had bad-luck w/ using the brakes. they seem to see brake lights and pick you as the next target.

Have you done the 15T front sprocket thing yet?  I found that a great help in reducing absolute speed while still maintaining the feel of the revs.  It also allows you to accelerate faster for more fun before reaching the speed limit.  :thumb:
