i have been through here before but didn't post.
i was sent here by the brothern at sporkbikes.ws to seek help.
i have been looking for a gs rider to ride with some time, i had to deal with a novice ninja rider
but here is charleston i have only seen my bike, well i spent an hour in the members list and found one here that has a lot of post, that means to me that at least he/she is active and would respond.

a little histoy on me i have a 2004 gs500f had 1900 mile on it when i got it here at a shop. its yellow i now have over 8900 on it sence i bought in aug. i lowsided back in oct had 6300 on it then,

i was deals gap if you have never heard about it check it out www.dealsgap.com 318 curves in 11 miles it was a insane trip and cant wait to get back. i am also plaining a track day come march 06.

when i wrecked i had to change a few things the tank was busted up but i fixed it the fairs were/have been replaced and i learnd a lot. how ever the muffler was bent really badly so i choped it off and welded up one from a gsxr1000
i now need to know what carb jet size to go to i also droped in a k&n filter. as far as i know its never been changed.
i also need a new rear tire, which i will be replaceing this jan what if any do you recomend i was going to go with what ever the shop put on, said that it would be fine.

any way just checking in the first time and saying hi and looking forward to posting and such, also if you would like to see the bike at the gap and some of the wreck i have a video of me going down the mountan and some still shots of the soraounding area, just let me know here.

welcome!  I'm sure you can find someone to cruise with.

Keep in mind, though:  it's not important what the people you ride with "ride", it's important how they ride it.

Mak, you always provide great pearls of wisdom. :)   I agree with Mak.  I just got my '04f in August and I've been riding with my friend who has a 2004 CBR600RR.  Much beefier bike than mine.  Man can he ride!

Anyway, WELCOME!  :thumb:

How does the bike run now?

If you have the stock Bridgestone on the front, go with a Bridgestone BT45 130/70 rear.

Greetings fellow Palmetto State citizen! There are several fine GS owners in our state. Slowe30 is a GSTwinner and lives in North Augusta. dgyver lives near me in Williamston. There's a couple in Clemson (but they often sell their bikes for beer   ). Another flatlander GSTwinner is in Valdlosta, GA, not too bad a ride from you.

So dive on in here, post a hello over in the Meet & Greet section and enjoy the ride.

the bike runs great seems to run better but bogs in the lower rpms  at take off a little other than that seems to be a lilttle pepper. buddy says the same thing when he rode it the first time after the change. i should also add its a stock can off of a 1000cc gsxr not some race can.

i will post the videos latter tonight for you all i'm at work so i will when i can.

its great to find some one here is sc, just a note i will be headed to clemson mabe this coming week and if i feel brave by the time i get there i my try to hit the gap  again befor the snow hits in.

what was on it before the gic can?  Usually bogging down is too much fuel.  What's it sound like when it does this?  Really low pitched?  Like throttling it with the choke at full?

well its more like a, car thats loaded but doesn't have the power, its not some big bog or any thing it just feels to me like it laging a little, the exhaust be fore was the stock one. as far as i know there will aways be a lag in a carb from a still idle while in gear and starting to move to wot as soon as the rpm get above 4k it all gravy, i am sure you know that.   ffor the first 5500 miles i put on it i never went above 9k rpm it was scary rpm to what i am use to 6.5krpms   another thing that needs to be done is the valve check that should have been done twice now ut hasn't any ponters.

well I really don't know much about carburetors...I have a hard time getting them to work with me without investing a stupid amount of time.  But I can tell you that the bike needs to be checked by a professional.  Start putting away a few hundred bucks for a dealer visit.  You'll want the valves checked and adjusted and tell them about your fueling problem.

Yes, while the GS lacks a little down low below 4k rpm, which is normal, we can probably smooth it out a little with some jetting. I suggest going up one size on the pilot jet and screwing out the mix screw. http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12930

the only way i could think to tell if it were runing lean or rich ect... was to check the plugs right now there a light tan with some white on the very end of the plug tip which in the many engines i have worked on ect indecates that it is at least geting the right mixture but the white would say what ? not lean rich but possable need to go to a colder plug. but needless to say it runs just fine i was just trying to sqiese some more power out.

slightly lean is optimal.  The slightly freeer flowing GSXR can or maybe the baffle arragement has probably put the hole in the mid-range. If you spend most of your time there, that could explain the plug read.

I concur, and will add that you don't need to change plugs, just jetting.

As said I'd only mess with the pilots and mix at the moment.

The stock GS uses a 17.5 bleed type mikuni pilot...I'd step up to a 20.
