Need:Cheapest motorcycle shipping from U.S. to CANADA

I've never shipped anything before & I'm trying to figure out the cheapest shipping to canada from ohio.  Anyone got any ideas?  I've done a few quotes but they were more expensive than I had anticipated

Canada is a big place. Are you shipping it anywhere specific...?  :P

It is much too cold to ride it right now, obviously. But have you looked into U-Ship? They seem relatively affordable.

I assume this motorcycle is more than 15 years old?  You cannot export a motor vehicle into Canada newer than that (at least to my knowledge).

The cheapest way is to take it with you.  U-Haul rents motorcycle trailers that are reasonably priced.  If you're staying you'll have to check if they're good with dropping the trailer off in Canada -- expect not.

For less than $800US you can buy a flat-bed trailer that'll haul a GS500.  It just needs to be 8'long x 5' wide.

Where are you going in Canada?  Is it a trip or a stay?

Depends on how they write up the import form... Brought my '93 GS up here, but it keeps its Minnesota title. Can't be sold while I'm here, but can be registered and used. Special situation since I'm a temporary resident on a 2-3 year stint for work.  Be sure to check it out though, I received many different answers before the final result.

I am not paying for the shippnig because I am in the process of selling to a fellow gs-er.  Obviously he wants the cheapest possible shipping bc he's paying for that.  

I'm looking for companies that'll do that.  Thanks

you can freely move vehicles in and out of canada that were sold under the same guidlines on both sides of the border...this includes the GS500.  Only diference between the two bikes is the instrument cluster.  Works the same with cars, too...been there, done that.

The absolute cheapest way would be to have him come get it.  He's only out fuel and time, then.  Cross border transport plus customs (if applicable) is going to run him close to $1000 CAD, probably more.  If he is insistant on shipping the bike then he needs to handle it from his end.  US-based cross-border transport is going to be more expensive as it's not essential to their business.  Canadian freight companies have to cross the border almost on mandate to stay in business...it'll be cheaper due to frequency.

If you can talk him into coming and getting the bike himself, then that's really the best routing.  To make the easiest, partially diassemble the bike before crossing the border.  There'll be less hassle at check-points.  Pull the wheels, plastics and easy to remove stuff off and drop the motor.  Take it back in parts.  A few colleagues of mine got a JZA70 Supra into the states from canada like that.

A dream of mine is to buy my next bike somewhere distant, fly or rent a car and ride the bike back home. :)

Would take a bit of planning to do this trans-country, but I figure it may be possible in-country.  For your case as vendor, I'd suggest you consider delivering it by trailer.  I think a U-Haul is the way to go.  Should be less than $20 a day for a trailer that would do the trick, add gas and time, and you'll be around $200 out-of-pocket for the whole event, I imagine.

Doing it through a third-party is considerable more expensive and harder to arrange.

Be sure to do your research on trans-country vehicle sales.  Check out sites like Motorcycle.Com (topic: Shipping) and Canadian Customs, Border Services -- Importation of Vehicles in particular. You should be able to do this, but there will be charges to convert ownership over and get it on the road in Canada.

You may want to try WALNECKS CYCLE TRADER they advertise bike moving companies but I have no idea of how much it would cost to ship .
