I'm using internet explorer as an FTP for my new host.  This has always worked with my last one...I just drag the file from my desktop to my ftp site and it's always worked.  Well, it's not working now.  Everytime I try to open the files they say page not found, sometimes the url changes from the website to c:\desktopsomethingoranother...

Any suggestions?

When you drag something from the desktop to IE, usually IE wants to open it, so that's why you see the URL as "c:\desktopsomethingoranother...".

What kind of files are you trying to drag to the FTP?

Do the jpg's open up, and do the videos play?

If the videos play, do they open a new window or do they play in the current one?

Is this file listed in your FTP directory?

Make sure you have the correct "subdirectory" listed.  I've had situations (annoying) where I've uploaded a picture or something, and it placed somewhere I didn't expect.

Have you tried WsFTP?  Great program, and it's easy to use.

can't try different ftp software at the moment...on work pc.

I have a forum hosted on that site...would I need to put the pictures in the same directory as the forum?

Quote from: subcfor FTP plz use a real ftp client

I never liked FireFox either...  Something strange.

Anyway, I'm not sure how you set up your forum site...

If your work PC isn't locked down, try running the "DOS" version of FTP.  Click START then RUN.  Type "FTP".

You'll see a black screen with "ftp> _"  type "?" and hit enter.  This will give you a list of commands to use in this ftp prompt.

To open your ftp site, type "open ftp.yoursite.com".  This will vary.

I have a tripod site, and I have to type in "open ftp.tripod.com"

I should have said this earlier in this post (I'm too lazy to move the cursor to the right area), if you've used DOS before, this will be easy.

honestly, to avoid problems you must use a real ftp client, or at least a web service that provides ftp interface, such as:
