I have just been riding a bit but I am loving my gs500e 1998.  I have almost put 1,000 miles on her.  Well every time I see a biker I wave to them to recognize them.  Sometimes they even wave first and I wave back every time.  I make it a point to wave to every biker.  I have noticed though that some bikers dont wave back.  I dont want to make any sterotypes but it seems like the hardass harley types are the ones who dont wave back.  Also I think the riders on sportsbikes like gsxr600 and r6 are less likely to wave back.  This isnt the case all the time this is just an observation I have noticed.

Today I was riding and I saw a few riders.  One at a stoplight and we actually struck up a conversation he was a cool dude.  He was on a suzuki bandit 1200.  Then I saw a guy on a cruiser type I wasnt sure what kind but he actually waved to me before I got to him.  Then I saw some hardass type on a harley iwth a vest with patches and such and I waved to him but he just looked at me like I was out of my mind.  Whats up with that!?!?!  Has anyone ever been ignored after a wave?  Most of the time the other biker either waves back or waves to me before I wave to them but ever so often I get shut down.

Has anyone experienced this?  I think bikers are a whole different sub culture but harley riders are a compltely different culture in our culture.  These riders seem to be a bit close minded if you ask me.  I think the sports riders just think that a little gs500 isnt even worth a wave!  I think every biker should atleast acknowledge the other riders with a wave or even a upwards tilt of the head (sup).  It just bothers me a bit when I totally get ignored by other riders.  What do you guys think about that?  Does it bother you or has this even ever happened to you?  Do you notice any trends in the types of bikes the riders are on?

Continuing the old thread, has anyone EVER gotten a wave back from scooters?  I waved to EVERYONE (scooters too) the first month I had my bike.  Scooters NEVER waved back, so I stopped.  Some scooters look like real bikes from the front, so I almost wave, but I catch myself and don't even bother.  I know they won't wave back. :flipoff:

This one is my favorite:

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community - a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassel handlebars and the studded luggage and the half helmets - God, they drive me crazy.

You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, do I hate those guys. I don't wave at them either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180 degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they have got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grandpa, and while your at it, I'm not waving to you.

Ducati guys - I don't wave at them either. Why they don't spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color as long as it is red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a Desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.

Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on the top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should ever wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over
at me and you know what I do? I don't wave I just keep going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.

I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from
me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at - those guys with the helmets with loud paint jobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet - like I'm going to wave back at that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.

To me, motorcycling is like a family, a close knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special.

That last one was sweet.  I wave at everybody and if I don't get a wave back, I don't sweat it.

I've NOT waved back a couple of times but both times it was because I was coming to a stop (rather quickly) and needed my clutch pulled in and my front brake jammed on.  Hard.

So I hope those two guys I didn't wave to understand.  Sometimes you just can't wave.

Oh...  I didn't mean that you should search...  I just meant that thread was funny...

I still love the Auto-wave button...

It's kind of funny the different reactions I get when I wave to other bikers depending on which bike I'm on.  If I'm on my GS alot of the crotchrocket guys and the Harley guys don't wave.  If I'm on my '71 Shovelhead the sportbikes don't wave but all the Harley and cruiser guys do.   If I'm on my V-Star 1100, again alot of the sportbikers don't wave, some of the Harley guys don't wave  but almost all rest wave.
