I received my college diploma in the mail today!! (B.S. in Nutrition)  O0 It feels good, but it kind of sucks that it wasn't handed to me at the ceremony.  If I want to walk with the rest of my class, I have to wait until May since I finished in Dec of '05.  By then, I'll be well into working full time and college will be a distant memory.  Oh well..just wanted to share that good news with all of you.

I'm still waiting for my diploma in the mail.  We did have midyear commencement though, where they hand us an empty diploma holder. :dunno_white:  In any case it was nice to have the ceremony.  Just need to find a job now :icon_rolleyes:

Congrats Amanda!  I remember when I finished my A.S. and how exciting it was.  Now after 5 years of working, I'm back in school (part-time) getting my B.S.  I'm not gonna attend the ceremony for this one though

I can't believe you make us call you Mister!  haha

Do you know which college you will be going to? have a major picked? going to live there or commute?  It's a fun time, you'll love it.  In my opinion, college classes are not too difficult if you are interested in the subject.

I've been thinking about going to the University of Cincinnati and majoring in transportation design. I am going to their open house to get more info. I have considered doing a double major but it sounds twice as hard.  :) Right now the ACT and SAT are scaring me. What did you get on those tests?

....also, you will call me MISTER, and like it.  :icon_razz:

I never took the ACT, but I did take the PSAT and SAT.

PSAT - 950
SAT - 1170 or 1120
(I remember that thrid digit has that distinctive loop on the top when I write it, but I can't remember if it had the tail)

I took the SAT in order to get into ASU.  I got a 1310.  If I recall the program requires something around 1200.  I hated the SAT.  Worse, companies are now judging/hiring people depending on that stupid test.

SAT's are stupid....SAT II's are stupid....ACT's are stupid too...that was the one thing I like about Yale..no one ever talking about what they got on those stupid tests...except for Janet cause she got a 1600 and wrote an SAT prep book all by age 16  :icon_rolleyes:

The only thing the SAT's measure is how well u take a test.  And contrary to popular belief just cause u have a college degree doesnt mean u will get a job....... major in something in which u will gain a skill because apparently thinking is not a priority to employers these days!!!

This is so true.  My boss (a good friend) told me about an applicant that had his GED instead of a H.S. diploma.  If he and another similar qualified person were applying for the same job, he'd pick the guy with the GED.  Basically he was smart enough to realize that he made a mistake leaving school, and he actually did something about it.  Most kids who graduate high school without going on to college just graduate because it's the "social" thing to do.

Well, I think the SAT is good for some and bad for others.  It can help get a person who sucked in HS and wants to go to college.  It can hurt somebody who was good in HS and bombed the SAT.

In some ways it does corrolate to IQ, but I have seen studies that prove that SAT scores do not necesarily match up with grades.  I think these pseudo IQ tests have become such an industry that kids will always be faced with having to take a test go get into college.  Lord only knows how much SAT and ACT schmooze colleges & universities in order to keep them requiring is.

Hell, think about it.  Even though I had a college degree,  graduated at the top of my class, and was over 30, I was still required to submit an SAT score to ASU.  How stupid is that?  The test sucked, I had to take it with HS students and the proctor gave me shaZam! for being there to take it -as if I was some pervert just wanting to be around kids or something.  Oh man was I miserable.

I dunno, I just think that deciding one's fate on the basis of one multi choice test seems pretty ridiculous -actually it's sad.  We're supposed to try not to discriminate, and offer people an equal opportunity YET schools discriminate on the basis of one test. :nono: So much for the whole college diversity thing :2guns:

I've read an article where they stated that the SAT, ACT, and all those other tests where geared towards people who are certain types of thinkers, meaning they are more efficient with a certain side of their brain.  I can't remember which side the article stated, but it was very interesting.

The people who used the "other" side of their brain didn't do so well in the tests, but they excelled in other areas of academia.

Congrats Amanda.

The graduation ceremony is overrated.  Your family comes into and takes too many pictures and you just want them to leave so you can get bombed.

And you never remember walking across the stage.  If there wasn't a picture of it, I am sure I wouldn't remember it at all.  I do remember when I finished grad school we tossed our caps up in the air and I looked into the balcony and my dad had his hands raised like a "touchdown" signal.  That was cool.  And graduating from grad school is cool because they give you a hood at your hooding ceremony.  Hoods are cool.

'Grats Amanda, I know I'm still 4, 5, or maybe even 6 years shy of graduation, depending on the work schedule, and whether or not I go to grad school. It's something I'm looking forward to immensely. As for SATs and that other BS, I agree, it's just  :bs:. I somehow pulled a 1500... does it mean I'm more qualified for a job than others? Not necessarily. Besides, it doesn't matter anymore, as Mr.7 will be taking the NEW, IMPROVED (how can it be both?) SATs, which include a COMPUTER SCORED writing portion, with a total possible score of 2400. Mr. 7 should be shooting for about a 2200 or 2300. Makes the rest of our scores pale in comparison, eh? Good luck with the new job! Mr. 7, my only advice is to NOT stress over your SATs.. stress does no good.. Also, don't sign up for the test date that's the day after halloween, I did that the first time I took em.. that SUCKED... only got a 1450 that time... Fell asleep twice during the test... stupid friends "You don't need to sleep..."  :2guns: :2guns:

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
