I have been looking at thread on this between Pantablo and Wearese about the 88-89 GSXR rear wheel I found one on ebay from a 1100 it seems to fit the specs and am gonna bid on it just checking here about it since it was stated that the 750 would work.

here is the link.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2422112116

Btw what was the word on the tire for this? Just use a 150/60 or 70 on it?

NOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

the rear hub of the 1100 is HUGE!!!!

serious issues with getting it to fit and you can NOT use the GS cush to save machining costs!!!

Argh and I thought that I had found a deal!

Oh well I am gonna keep looking.

Hey We and Pab,

Could you guys get with BobB and put a page together of rears that will fit most easily?

Years from the GSXR that will slide in with spacers to the wheels that need machining? I've read through all of the stuff and I get confused on what will work. I know that the info is there but it's tough to chew through and keep straight.

Just a very polite request for the bunch that are willing to grab the goods from EBay, but don't want to get stuck with goods that we can't use.

I'll help if you don't want to do the HTML time. PM me in plain text. I'll put it up on what will be Pablo's next gen pages (yeah man, just getting back to that Pablo) Sorry dude, been doing the hours since we started

i would love to know that too. since ill be possibly extending my gs this winter, a wider back wheel would be cool

bbanjo- thanks. no hurry on the page. Realized the page was getting lots of hits because I included it in my signatures on the various forums I frequent and lots of people were checking it out from curiosity. Once I took the URL off the signatures things went back to normal...

The wheel stuff IS on the site already but not in a "wheel page" format. Theres the bandit wheel page and the gsxr wheel page. Those are the only ones that seem to fit. Although I'm sure the sv650 wheel might fit with spacers, so to the bandit 600 but no one has done that yet.

So far, the only wheel that will fit without spacers (only mod being the caliper needs some material removed from mounting surface) is the 88-89 gsxr 750 wheel (not 1100). This is on my page already. These wheels should be relatively easy to find (easier than b4's anyway) since most with 88-89 gixxer's want 91-94 wheels.

There are no easy answers and I don't have the money or time to do them myself-as much as I want a wider wheel.

guys/gals
this aint rocket science.

go to a local bike hangout/motorcycle salvage yard/used bike shop and take a tape measure(a dial caliper would be nice also)

start measuring swingarms at the back for inside width
and wheel axle diameters

see what is close
the GS is a 17mm axle and the width is....(from memory) about 8 3/8 inch wide
if a wheel from a.... is reasonably close in width....it can be made to fit

4.5 (88-89gsxr)and 5.0 (90gsxr) are still tough to find.....they were replaced in the early 90's for 5.5 and 6.0 rims or widened by Kossman

as stated several times there is a negative to a fat tire....but nobody listens.
a wider rim is heavier....
a wider tire is heavier.....
the GS has to work harder to turn the tire....we are talking 40-45HP here
the extra rotating mass will make the bike more difficult to turn in....profiles of the tires might not be matched....more turn in problems

this said....again

I will be spending some more time at the house and have my street bike sitting on the bench in prep to convert to 88-89 gsxr wheel and I am taking some pics....I'll send them to pablo or someone to make a nice write up...should hopefully do it this weekend

New wheels like SV/Bandit/Katana have differend (wider) hubs than those of 88-90 GSXR 750 and 1100.
I just went thru this on my race bike.
88-90 GSXR wheels accept GS500 bearings and sprocket carriers. All you need to do is machine the outside of GS500 caliper bracket slightly for a bolt-in  project. You have to use GSXR rotor and GS caliper. Pry bar and a torch will re-shape your stock caliper anchor/arm.
I had a 160/17 Bridgestone BT56 on the back with no problems. The chain is close, but doesn't touch.
Anyone needs a GSXR wheel and rotor?
$100 plus shipping from Ohio or can bring to local tracks.

Can't front the money right now...no can do. Trying to work an extra job or three to get some extra cash for the family (wife wants to quit working but wont freelance until some savings are built up...important for her-more important than the wheel).

I was lucky enough to find 2 for that price. Then I found a guy that was selling a set (front and rear!) for $100. I already had 2 sets for slicks and rains , but  couldn't pass on that set. Anyone need a front for 88-89 GSXR?
I'm running later model USD forks and can't use it.
The deals are out there. You guys just need to surf Ebay till you find them.

Werase...
:guns: Wider tires and wheels are heavier yes...
:nana: But the newer rims weigh nothing...Yes harder to fit but an sv wheel will drop the weight a whole lot even after putting the tire on and airing it up...Final weight.
OTOH...the 16 inch wheel I have for the GS is the same weight as the GS wheel and the width is the same and the end weights are near identical. But I wont have to deal with the extra diameter of the 90 profiler I have to use ... being the cheapskate I am...
Cool.

I'm saving my pennies for that carbon fiber wheel set...and the rest of the WSB Factory Ducati. I'll even settle for last years 998.
