There is no rev limiter on the GS, so be careful when you do. You're fine when you wind it up to 11k, though. I rev mine there on a regular basis and it still runs strong. Our engine is durable as hell.

11k isn't that bad.  You're going to have crank and valve issues once you exceed 12k, though...you almost have to do that intentionally, though.

yea, i noticed right when it started screaming... :o

I love the sound it makes when you run it to redline. Not as nice as an I4, but it's still pretty nice. You get valve float around 11.5k so it's hard to run it past that (unless you're at redline and mis-shift and over rev).

Shift when you hear the valve float.  That seems to work all right.  :thumb:

Why?  You are way past the peak bhp so you are damaging the engine for nothing. :cookoo:

small motor .. thought the bhp was in the high revs. what i'v heard.  kinda like small cars .. there most bhp is right at there red line .

I'm impressed! You've been riding since, what, October?  And you're already flogging your GS.  Nice!   :thumb:

I think he peak HP is around 10K, but I'm known for making up such things.

The power is higher in the rev band, but cuts off before redline.  You can see it in this dyno run (Though that bike was slightly modified).  You can see the power starts to drop at 9.5 or 10k rpm

You'll have to ask some people who drag race about the best time to shift for quickest acceleration

Hey Aaron, What does it sound like when the valve starts to float??

I don't think I have ever gotten it over 9K so I wouldn't know. And that is Very rare that I even get it up that high.

It's not a sound, so much as a feeling, as if suddenly all the accelleration just kinda drops out and the power gets down on ya. It's as if you're going forward and forward and then suddenly "poof" you start to drag.

Peak HP is around 9k to 10K, so if you shift at redline it drops you back into the powerband, or thereabouts.

Joke.  But it's not like there'd a huge hp drop-off.  From 8,000 on up, it's fairly flat.

Also, it sounds like it's screaming at you.

Funny thing, I couldn't hear valve float on my GS  if you paid me, but my son can hear his when he gets goofy.  He says he can hear the cams beating on the valve shims.  I have rebuilt his motor.  It is true.

the ninja has a lot of mechanical advantages, though.  If you do the required mods to even up the power difference the GS is a little quicker because of it's weight advantage.
