There was a previous post about being able order a "BikeMaster" brand from bike bandit that is the same as stock for like 20-30 bucks, you just have to fill it with acid when you get it(from local autoparts store)'

Go with a sealed battery...you'll be able to get away with a smaller one and it'll last long enough to justify the $50.

I just picked up an Interstate battery for ~$50.  Came with battery acid and then I had to trickle charge after filliing up.  Local Cycle Gear wanted $65-70 for a Yuasa one.  These bike shops said that there aren't any Sealed batteries made for the Gs500's... yet.  Don't know if there is a compatible sealed one that would work and fit the same as OEM.  Found the Bikemaster batteries $25 on www.bikebandit.com(?) after I had purchased mine from the store.  Probably would've bought it online if I didn't need it to go riding for the upcoming weekend.

Over at Johnson & Woods I got a Parts Unlimited battery for 31 bucks. They filled it, but I didn't trickle charge it before putting it in my bike and riding off. Once I got home, I put it on the charger, and 1000 miles later, it's doin just fine.
Aaaaah, Los Angeles. Where if the traffic don't kill ya, the air will =P
