I'm up for a new front tyre in a thousand or two clicks, and a rear soon after. Now I've only used Dunlop Arrowmax GT501's, but I'm looking at alternatives which are a bit stickier but will still last a fair amount of distance. My Current front 110/70 has just over 18k on it, and the rear 140/70 has about 8k on it with plenty of tread left. Ultimately what I'm after is something that'll last at least 12-15k on the front, and 7-8k on the rear. Wet weather performance is a must also as I commute daily on the bike. I would love a set of GPR70's or BT090's but dont have the cash to get a new set every 3k.

Few tyres I've seen that might fit the bill are;

Dunlop GPR100 (front $144)
Michelin Pilot Activ ()
Pirelli Sport Demon (front $125)
or another set of GT501's (front $115)

Anyone had experience with the above and what sort of mileage they get front and rear, or anything else that fits what I'm after?

I don't know what others may think, but I'm a supporter of the Bridgestone BT-45's in GS500 sizes.  They are the first replacement pair for me and should be able to get close to 9600K out of the rear.  They're priced reasonably, probably in the A$125 range per tyre.

I suggest you do a search for posts that GSjack has given us with the keyword "Tire" in the General GS500 Discussion forum.  You will net several posts well worth reading.  He has (had) the most experience with tyres, of late favouring Metzeler as well as going slightly oversized with Avon AM52's.

Here are my recommendations from that thread:

I tried Dunlop Elites on my GS500E several years ago and was VERY unhappy because they didn't have 70 Series tires and I had to use 80 or 90 Series aspect ratios. Terrible handling, and the bike FELL into corners. Unnerving.
Then last spring I mounted a set of proper 70 Series Michelin Macadam 50/50E tires and they are GREAT!

My bike handles great again, traction is excellent wet or dry, braking is phenomenal and my bike is much improved.  I used stock sizes and am VERY pleased.

What kind of mileage are people getting out of the Sport Demons? I commute a hell of alot and take the GS for a spin through the moutains once or twice a month?

just curious....i know couple of people who had sport demons on their gs....and they both lowsided......maybe its too grippy...people get too confident with it? (granted i still have learn how to lean on my tires ).....i have avons...from what ive read they last long and great on rainy days....

I lowsided with my sport demons. That means they AREN'T sticky enough! I need some supersport rubber . They are just stickier than the stockers which can lead to overconfidence.

Anyone know if there are wear bars on Sport Demons? I haven't seen any...

Well I ordered a pair of Pirelli sport demons today, about $270 for the pair. I was after a pair of Michi Macadams, but they were too silvery.

I'm getting the tyres put on in a weeks time when I get a tune done on the bike ready for the big ride to Nowra.

Be sure to break them in properly. Take it easy, but be sure to get some lean in on them so you break in the edges of them as well, rather than just the center strip of the tire. They're pretty good tires for the street and should serve you pretty well.

I'll have the tyres on for 2 weeks before the ride so I'll have a bit of time to scrub them in, I'll get those edges scrubed in for sure 

Whats a good tire for the GS in stock sizes that would have the best handling regaurdless of its price and mileage.

Im talking about something for mostly dry use only, close to a slick maybe?

Sport Demon is about the best you'll get in stock sizes.

I went with a pair of sport demons when I bought my bike, the gs is my first bike and I'm getting used to leaning my bike over but from what I'm hearing there an excellent tyre I've got about 3/4's of an inch before I get to the edge of my tyre which still has the silica coating on it.

Has anyone used BT003 or BT090 for street use? I'm intrigued by the 003s for some spirited canyon riding in cali.
