Pilot jets - Bleed or "non-bleed" type?

I installed the 40 pilots in my carbs and the bike won't idle correctly.  I just looked in the Makuni catalog and realized there are two types of pilot jets - Bleed and non-bleed type.  The difference is that the bleed type have tiny cross drilled holes in them.  The non-bleed type does not.  If this has been covered here before I appologize but this one bit me in the @ss.

The question is:  Is the non bleed type the correct ones for the GS?

I ran into the same problem.  I took out the stock pilot jets and went shopping around town for the same type, but size 40.  No one had any.  They had plenty of bleeder type but I wanted the same type that came out of the carb.
There was an earlier thread posted on this subject, and some people were able to make the bleeder type work.  You just have to adjust your idle mix screw to make it work.
I had to special order my jets from a local dealer who ordered them from the Tucker Rocky catalog.  Look back a few post pages, and you should be able to find the post on this for more info.

Cool, I ordered some Non-bleeds from Tucker Rocky today.  I tried adjusting my screws all over the place with no luck.  I am running stock pilot jets with 125's 3 1/2 turns seems to have cured my problem.

I'm curious why the bleed type are less money than the non-bleed type.  I'm sure the bleed type have more processes to manufacture due to the little holes drilled in it.  Maybe it's supply and demand.

Anyone know???

Another thing - Both my local speed tuners say they don't change the pilots in any bikes they jet for any reason.  Is this recomended only because the U.S. GS bikes came with smaller pilots?  Is this only on the GS?

They are lazy idiots who want to make easy money by making you buy a ket kit and charging you an arm and a leg to put it in and if they strip the pilots or damage it its more work for them and you probably wont pay for it. If the US bikes had 37.5, rest of the world had 40's...trust me I am trying 40's to see if it cures the bottom end issues I have had.
Cool.
