I have an '04f and I am wondering if there is anything different about the oil change how-to that I need to be concerned with

Nope.  Other than the fairings; and the quantity of oil, since you have an oil cooler, I suspect you will need more oil for the increase in oil capacity.  You will want to have a leftover bottle of oil anyway for topping up from time to time.

Don't overtighten the bolts on the filter cap! Don't learn the hard way like me and many other people. Hand tightening them and then a half turn of the wrench should do.

I just did an oil change, but do not remember how "tight" I made those bolts. What happens when you overtighten them?

To the OP, I used right at 3 quarts of oil and the only difference were some of the bolt sizes. I have not rechecked the oil level to see if I need to add more, as it has only been a day since I did the change.

If you overtighten the bolts, you risk snapping them off.  My guess is if that didn't happen, you're all set

Find yourself some grease and smear it into the O-Ring groove before putting the O-Ring into it.  Does two things;

• Helps make the O-Ring stay in place as you position the cover back in place.
• Gives you added sealing capability so you don't tend to over-tighten due to a little dribble of oil.

You'll thank yourself for doing it.  Trust me.
