To those who say the GS doesn't have enough power

It's got enough power to break the rear wheel loose and do a burnout alongside an R6.

And as we saw in an earlier thread, enough power to wheelie around pretty easily.

The GS doesn't have enough power to be an ideal highway machine.  It can get up to speed fast enough, but it could definitely do with some more torque at 60-70mph speeds.

The only good thing about Atlanta traffic with a weaker (than 'normal') bike is that since so many people drive so quickly... you can often  ride full open on the GS without going too much faster than normal traffic flow (on a weekend... everyone drives 30 mph during rush hour :-) )

I have never had a problem passing cars going 70 to 80mph or faster on the freeway. Sure you might have to downshift, but so what? It's got a far better power to weight ratio than most cars out there.

It's all about how you ride...I have no problem keeping up with the other riders i roll with, and they all have 600^ bikes...nobody really wants to go any faster than 130...

I've never had a problem...  I just stay in the power band when I want power...  (Which is not 6th gear when you're going 70). :thumb:

As for the vids...  The burn-out guys are just morons with too much money...
I like the stunt one though... Those quads are entertaining. :laugh:  I like the two-wheeling on the quad. :laugh:

But if not, litre bikes do not always equal guaranteed death. I don't know this guy, so I can't say. Maybe he's been riding for 20 months or maybe 20 years, I have no clue. Some people can handle bikes over 600cc.  I don't plan on getting a 1k ever, but to each his own.

Then again, maybe you were kidding too. I have no idea...

Practically any bike can be forced into a wheelie of handled right.
Pretty much all of them will do a standing burnout.  You can do it on a scooter if you hold the front brake and lean into the bar.
If you want to see the original stunters, watch the observed trials guys rear wheeling it over a 5 foot diameter log with 8HP.

I haven't had any trouble with the GS passing at highway speeds.  Click a gear and roll the throttle.

35.4 hp and 24.5 tq is splenty of power to bring the wheel around for a good smoky burn out.

HP and torque numbers were a little higher at the wheel I thought, but I guess it does vary a bit. But yeah, the GS has plenty of power for pretty much anything you need to do, IF you know how to do it right. It's got enough power to stunt, enough power to burnout, enough power to pass people easily on the highway, etc... You just need to know how to do it right.

Wow that second video is amazing. As a new rider I can't even fathom how people reach that level of skill and balance. I was most impressed when the gs did tight circles with no hands at such a slow speed. I would surely topple over. I thought the MSF circles were challenging but that guy is good. Props to him.

+1  IMO everyone should step up gradually if you want to get to a 1000 bike.
